they just want a union between the countries of syria l kubra! and as far as i'm concerned that in no way even comes close to treason! And they have already acknowledged the finality of the COUNTRY of LEBANON! Anyway i'm not here to educate anyone about the true history of the ssnp, the one before the death of Antun Saade! I'm just commenting on the treason part which is totally unacceptable when there are true traitors within our lebanese community who are pretty much willing to sell the souls of the lebanese people if they bring them any profit! you live with your conscience! regards!!!

The idea of Greater Syria came long before the idea of Greater Lebanon...

Would you say that SSNPers are wrong to stick to their beliefs throughout the decennials?

Not everybody agrees from a historical perspective on the notion of Nation-State the same way the French and British did!

No problem about competition. But SSNP is more than just about Greater Syria. They represent many people throughout Lebanon and their political program includes other points than Syrian reunification...

The way SSNP is being labeled, is like saying that Kataeb and LF are Maronite parties and that their only ambition is to consolidate Maronite power in Lebanon and to enslave the other Christian and Muslim communities...

In my opinion, the SSNP as a party are truly a party with very interesting perspectives. They want a greater Syria? well , it is not their sole goal. Working with SSNP and using parts of their visions (bar the greater Syria part) is something rather good for any part. Let's not forget that SSNP are the only true scular party in Lebanon.

However, the bad aspect and reputation of SSNP, is a mere reflection of some bad members and leaders of the parties. The problem of SSNP is not the party itself but people that joined the party such as Hardan, Habib Chartouni (he's a pawn but still), even Ghassan el Achkar (and others that I really dont know the name of) .

I think if SSNP goes through an internal reform, kick out some of the rotten eggs, and try to modernize a little their ideology (at least take out or loosen the greater Syria aspect), they are quite a respectable party with an interesting vision.

Well back in 1958 SSNP was allied with kamil chamoun....
Anyways as for Mansour, yes. He is by far the most popular christian in the region, according to one poll released by al-akhbar last week, he gets like 69% of shia vote....

It beats me, I don't understand why they love him but they do.

a perfect example why this ideology will never lead anywhere.

regardless of how great you believe the saadé philosophy to be, or how much stock you invest in his perception of the nation state; the fact is that you collectively underestimate the nature of the individual.

regardless of how well spoken your partisans are, the fact remains that you are even at odds with what you pretend to be you own calling, your failure to convince people of the validity of your believes soon turns into a disdain, and later into hatred against those you consider to be part of your own greater nation. I am not sure what saadé taught you about the rise of nation, but he should have taught you a thing or two about how nations fall apart.

you will forever keep failing to impose your views on the individuals, the building blocks of communities and peoples, simply because this vision does not flow from within the essence of these individuals and neither from within their direct communities, and unless that changes, you will simply remain what you are, a small group with plans that reside in some parallel universe.

the true merger will occur when individuals identify with each other across the borders, when societies across the borders mirror or complement each other on a multitude of different levels; economically, philosophically, religiously, ethically, and intellectually.

these changes have to flow naturally from within the society, they cannot be imposed, and they certainly cannot be achieved through disdain nor through coups or revolts.

And allow me to tell you that your vision, ideals and philosophy can easily be eclipsed on all levels with a simple tiny question; if this was so right, why restrict the unification to what you refer to as greater syria? why not all the world? the fact that you assign physical borders to what you claim to be a higher intellectual plane for the political perception of the state, is proof enough of the mediocrity of this theory.
