If you're going to argue in favor of his appointment, then do so on the basis of his qualifications and the skills that he brings to the table (as some of you have argued).

Don't say: it's ok because everyone else does it.

And also, don't say: it's ok because he has been with the Tayyar forever. That's not enough of a reason to make someone a minister. They need to have real talent and abilities and a vision. I don't know that GB has those qualities, but I also don't know that he does not either.
my answer to the point of Bush was in reply to political feudalism that i quite clearly quoted. it is not a matter of who benefits or not, it is a matter that just because GB married GM's daughter then he should sit home and take care of the kids :s

my opinion is the strength of the tayyar as a party, for me it doesnt matter who is in charge of some ministry and i am sure it is not all the work of GB but FPM is assisting him, and will assist anyone in his place.

what i was defending is the point abou el zouz always brings up together "nepotism" and feudal systems

Amen to that! Golden words Oxymoron.

Bassil is being pushed to the forefront of the political scene by GMA but with a major lack of public support. Why the stubbornness? There are so many likable figures within FPM and the mere fact that this guy's popularity is generating a thread to discuss why some FPMers dislike him is enough to question his success as an ''imposed'' leader/successor.

Politics doesn't only involve competence, it also revolves around the public perception and image. GB doesn't appeal to the public, period. Get over it. He might have been a good minister that doesn't make him popular and certainly not a leader.

FPM, errrr GMA (!) should just drop the Bassil card and stop overexposing him

The real problem behind the current fuss in my view is not the ministers (come on, AJ is bigger than a ministerial position) but rather the lack of organization coupled by the dominance of Gebran Bassil. Whether we like it or not the way things are shaping up in FPM is preparing Gebran to be the heir, which many FPMers including AJ seem to oppose. Personally, I am not against the person of Gebran and in fact I may vote for him if he presents his candidacy to be leader, but I am against imposing Gebran's leadership on FPM. The chaos that is currently taking place in FPM can be solved easily and fast, using GMA's preferred method: ELECTIONS !!

Let all those who like to lead FPM, Gebran included, present their team and program so that all Maou7zibin (i.e. FPMers/Aounists with official party membership cards) chose who they want. The candidate who gets more votes win, and the others accept the democratic choice of FPMers. So simple like this !!

Agree 100%.... I mean what is his exact function in FPM? What is his area of focus / expertise? HA relationship? M Sleiman relationship? FM relationship? Policy? Organization? What precisely?

I heard that Jiji has become quite friendly with el Presidente... Probably Aoun is cashing in on this good relationship to also be in a good relationship with MS.

I must be missing something here. But what did Bassil actually achieve during his time?

So what if Gebran bassil is the next leader to be of FPM then what are you gonna do about it ?? abandon FPM ?
Bassil is a young smart politician that happens to be related to GMA but even if he wasn't i think he'd still be getting the same attention and he would still be working as hard as he is right now, i'm not gonna make a judgment based on the media that obviously succeeded picturing him as the evil guy waiting to take over the party.
A lot of Bassil hatred is based on the fact that he is young and getting a life time opportunity that people twice his age didn't get, he is qualified for his position and the man putting him in-charge is not an amateur.
