The Shiites' threshold for war may be high but its not sky-high; Hezbollah realizes this way too well and is recently, more than ever, cautious with regards to the conflict. SHN is settling to up the rhetorical ante merely as a means of deterring Israel - the essence of this deterrence is that Hezbollah is willing and able to stand up to Israel should it enter Lebanon, but by no means will it instigate or provoke it. |
As an Israeli, I can tell you that Nasrallah's rhetoric only brings us closer to war. If someone says he wants to wipe you out, wouldn't it make sense to preempt him and wipe him out first?
Israel has clearly stated: If Lebanon does not attack us, we will not attack it. We would be happy to solve all problems by dialog.
Until HA and Lebanon say the same thing, war will always be a strong possibility. Nasrallah claims there is a third option between war and surrender which he calls resistance. Unfortunately there isn't. If part of the goals of resistance is to get rid of Israel, this means that Israel has to think of ways to eliminate this threat.
