دعا الرئيس نجيب ميقاتي الى عدم فتح باب تعديل الطائف لأنه لن يرتد خيرا على البلد في هذه المرحلة، وقال لصحيفة "السفير": "أنا مع تطبيق الطائف بحذافيره لتبيان كل حسناته وسيئاته قبل اللجوء الى أي تعديل مستقبلي لبعض الثغرات والتي تتطلب مناخا وفاقيا وطنيا هادئا. هكذا فقط نصل الى نظام عصري حديث يليق بطموحات الأجيال المقبلة ."

وعلق ميقاتي على الانتقادات التي تعرض لها بسبب عدم مشاركته في اجتماع الأكثرية الأخير في قريطم، موضحا أنه خارج قوى 14 آذار لكنه يلتقي على الثوابت ذاتها مع رئيس الحكومة المكلف سعد الحريري ويقدّم له دعمه الكامل، ولفت إلى أن وسطيته تلتقي مع وسطية رئيس اللقاء الديمقراطي النائب وليد جنبلاط.

ورأى ميقاتي أن أي اصطفاف سينتهي حتماً بوفاق، سائلا:" لم بناء متاريس وهمية والتلطي خلفها؟"، وأكد أن مواقفه المقبلة في البرلمان ستنطلق من ثوابت الإيمان بلبنان الواحد الذي يوفق بين جميع اللبنانيين.

The head of the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP), MP Walid Jumblatt, visited Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah at his residence in Haret Hreik in Dahyeh and discussed with him the situation in Lebanon and the region in general.

Jumblatt criticised march 14 slogans and invited his former allies to reconsider their political views. "We can't remain prisoners of slogans like freedom, sovereignty, and independence," Jumblatt said, recalling that Israel is Lebanon's enemy whereas Syria is a friend.

The Democratic Gathering leader warned of a malicious schemes, especially those aiming to create a sectarian crisis, that are being plotted against Lebanon, calling for Islamic and national unity to discard them.

After his meeting with President Nabih Berri Ain al-Tineh on Wednesday night, PSP leader MP Walid Jumblatt said he agrees with president Berri’s emphasis on Syrian-Saudi relations, adding he encourages the establishment of a partnership that does not target Iran in order to facilitate the cabinet formation. He assured that such rapprochement is in sync with the Taif Accord.

He drew attention to Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa’s demand to open dialogue with the Islamic Republic to resolve pending conflicts, saying, “We do not want any country, Arab or foreign, to cater to their self-interests while obstructing Lebanon’s government.”
