it's democracy.
Sanfour,

Democracy, as we accept and understand it in Lebanon, would have been to give GMA the presidency, not this year, not in 2007 nor in 2006 BUT in 2005 by pressuring Lahoud to resign after the elections.

It didn't happen while FPM secured almost 70 % of the christian votes.

Now, if GMS wants to have its block, he'll be no more a consensual president but a political opponent.

I really don't like the sectarian speach but if it happens to be true, then it is another proof that they're messing with the christians will. And believe me, I guess that they'll get an appropriate answer during next elections.

And the problem is that as long as people mess with one community, it will be hard to reestablish confidence between all the communities. And as long as this confidence is not restored, we won't be able to work on the building of a secular society. They're preventing us from moving forward...and we're wasting time once again.

Rgds

i doubt it will happen... if it does, i believe it will have a significantly negative effect on his relationship with Hezballah and that's something Sleiman will want to prevent.

the man hates GMA but i still beleive that he will never do more than that.
wait and see some people like mm wanted an excuse to run under and he gave them.
so soon the dhummes in 14feb will all become for the new block and run under it.

if he does more than that he will become a partisan and he will end up losing not winning.
he is just to coward to do more than that.
glad that he did it in the open so early so our suspicions are confirmed and we can factor it in our plans.

the elections didn't happen yet so.....no one knows if he will get the votes
or not. and i don't see any reason to call him dirty, he is doing what he thinks
is best......within the frame of the law.

President Sleyman rode long enough on the syrian horse, now it seems he is switching to the Saudi one. Let us see being a double agent where it will lead him.......

not "giving" the presidency to GMA is not illegal, if you can't get 2/3
of the MPs then you can't have the presidency...it's as simple as that.

not necessarily a political opponent but tell me what is the
meaning of consensual president in your opinion? there was an
agreement on electing him....OK....but that doesn't mean that he
can't do anything for fear that it may disturb some political figure!!
that said, i do agree with the sentence in bold....work for it instead
of cursing the president.

General Sleiman was appointed with a majority of cabinet approving his appointment including the FPM. If you dissaprove of his presidency, it isnt he who should resign but rather your elected representatives who voted for him unanimously. If that isnt an under the table deal, i'm not sure what is. If you believe in sectarian federalism, yes GMA should be president, but considering federalism is against fpm idiology, you must accept the current constitution and system of majority rule.
Rather than bash GMS why dont the Fpm embrace him and support his political ambitions, considering his ideals and direction dont differ much from those of the fpm.

the problem is that this new block of gms is in the christian areas >>>> it will replace FPM deputees
why there isn't a block for the president in tripoli , "omar karami , ahmad karami and najib mikati" can form a block who can back up the president
oops i forgot , the new block cannot be formed in places where 14 march will win
