Points number 1 and 2 are too much to ask. and even if it happens it will cause a civil war if he tries to apply them.

point number 3 is a must. and we should fight for it till the end

as long as the pm is sunni who cares who is assigned.

IF I WAS THE president i will assign any sunni employee i have in my business ( sa3doun tried to elect his employee ghettas khoury NO?).
we are trying to make a better country here aren't we?
so what is the point to imitate sa3doun (as you call him) and keep on going with the same attitude?! how the FPM would be different in such action?

on the other hand i don't give a $!t if the President was Maronite or else... Same to Prime Minister as Sunni or else ...Same to Parliament President as Shiite or else

Even with the current 'Powers' electing a new President goes through labor,
Do you think if these 3 new powers were given they will be ever used?
What are the odds that the Shiaa + Sunna would have the same positive perspective on the President-to-be incase such powers were granted ?

these are the current powers of the Lebanese president :

a-The President of the Republic is the head of the state and the
symbol of the nation's unity.
b-He shall safeguard the constitution and
Lebanon's independence, unity, and territorial integrity.
c-The President shall preside over the Supreme Defense Council
and be
d-the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces which
fall under the authority of the Council of Ministers.

plus the additional powers :

e. The President presides over the Council of Ministers when he wishes
without participating in voting.(this is for the photos)
f. The President alone issues the Decree which designates the
Prime Minister.
g. He issues, in agreement with the Prime Minister, the decree
appointing the Cabinet and the decrees accepting the
resignation of Ministers.(this has been violated by Hariri)
h. He issues, on his own authority, the decrees accepting the resignation
of the Cabinet or considering it resigned.
i. He forwards to the Chamber of Deputies Bills that are delivered to
him by the Council of Ministers.(15 days deadline)
j. He accredits ambassadors and accept the credentials of ambassadors.
k. He presides over official functions and grants official decorations
by Decree.
l. He grants particular pardons by Decree, but a general amnesty cannot
be granted except by a law.
m. He addresses, when necessary, letters to the Chamber of Deputies.
n. He may introduce, from outside the agenda, any urgent matter to
the council of Ministers.(without the possibility to vote as per
paragraph e)
o. He may, in agreement with the Prime Minister, call the Council
of Ministers to an extraordinary session, whenever he deems
this necessary.
******
IMHO, the most important and the one that should be worked on
and expanded is paragraph b : safeguarding the constitution.
i believe that this cannot be executed without proper explanations
and further development.
for example :
how does the President safeguard the constitution IF the
government violates the constitution by not presenting a budget
to the parliament for 4 consecutive years??

how does the president safeguard the constitution if article 95
is violated by the government??

in general , how can the president ,being the head of state , fulfill
his duties to safeguard the constitution if he cannot take any
measures against any authority who violates the constitution?

how the **** does it threaten national unity? I am for the president to have more powers akid as any president in any country should be able to turn down any marsoum he doesnt like. how the hell u want him ta yer2as bi baabda edem l houkoumi and he cant even vote? his voice is not heard. I really think him having 5 ministers in the government is a good thing as his voice will be heard but there are many things that need to be done.

Strongest Sunni = PM
Stongest Shia = Speaker of Parliament

Now you tell me, why did you work against the strongest in your community when he had 70% of christian support behind him?

Secondly, whenever we called for increasing powers of the president, they told us we are attacking the Sunni. Ya zalami, do you remember the fiasco when Abu Jamra was calling for increasing the powers of only the deputy PM???

Thirdly, do you like how your current allies have treated the presidency? They dragged him thru an electoral battle. Then, Hariri tossed him a cabinet list and didnt even wait for his answer. Only when he realised that he couldnt outsmart the Opposition, did he co-operate with the President.

So you should thank us!
