Do You think it is time now to renegotiate الترخيص for the Tahrir party who Mr Fatafat already gave it after it has been banned for a while ?

Default Terrorist ? Where ?! - 15th October 2008

At least they're doing something.

My bet is: everybody knows what is going on, and the army is keeping silent for a very good reason: to avoid division inside the country, but more importantly inside the army! The head of the army is betting on Hariri losing his majority next elections, which is better than him taken to prison or to court, which might cause a lot of trouble for the country!

Grilling of Tripoli cell members leads to further arrests
By Andrew Wander
Daily Star staff
Thursday, October 16, 2008

BEIRUT: Security forces hunting for members of the militant group believed to be behind a series of deadly explosions in and around Tripoli have made 20 more arrests, informed sources told The Daily Star Wednesday, as they revealed a wealth of new information about the case.

Security services swooped down Sunday on members of the group suspected of the bomb attacks, although their leader, Abdel-Ghani Ali Jawhar, remains at large. But the net appears to be tightening around the 25-year-old alleged militant, whom authorities believe is likely to be hiding in the Beddawi Palestinian refugee camp near Tripoli. "He wouldn't dare go into Syrian territory," one source said.

Security services are on high alert to prevent Jawhar from leaving Lebanon, keeping a watchful eye on identity documents to prevent him from fleeing the country using false papers. They said they were coordinating closely with foreign security agencies to prevent his escape.

The sources said Jawhar's brother was killed during the 15-week battle between the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and Fatah al-Islam, an Al-Qaeda-inspired militant group, at the Nahr al-Bared Palestinian refugee camp near Tripoli in the summer of 2007. Fatah al-Islam was almost wiped out in the fighting, but recent intelligence suggests a direct link between the group and the Tripoli cell.

Some of the 168 LAF soldiers who died fighting militants at Nahr al-Bared lived near Jawhar, and the sources said he may have taken the task of revenge seriously. The bombings he is alleged to have carried out killed more than 20 people, and a raid on his sister's house found an explosive belt, guns, bombs and ammunition for use in future attacks, the sources told The Daily Star.

Many of Jawhar's closest associates have been arrested and there are signs that those close to him may have given up trying to evade capture. Eighteen-year-old Ishak Mohammad al-Sabsi, who is believed to have been heavily involved with the fugitive militant, turned himself in to authorities after realizing the cell had been compromised, one source said. Officials say he has provided extremely useful information since.

Each new arrest brings security agencies closer to understanding how the group operated. One of the new detainees has been identified as Tarek Merhi, a resident of the Bab al-Raml area of Tripoli. Sources say Merhi ran a medical charity which received over $5 million in aid from a foreign country, but that it may have been a front organization to finance the attacks. "He got the money under the pretext of helping people, but it might have been used for something else," a source told The Daily Star.

In Sidon, five Palestinians were arrested, four of whom, all under the age of 19, were captured by the Lebanese Army Monday in the Ismailiya area of the city, not far from the Mieh Mieh refugee camp.

A fifth man was taken into custody Wednesday, apparently after the other four suspects named him during questioning. The man, who has not been identified, was from the Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp. The sprawling camp on the outskirts of Sidon is governed by Palestinian authorities rather than the Lebanese, and the suspect was only captured after being lured out into an area controlled by Lebanese security forces.

The Palestinian suspects also reportedly referred to a shadowy figure operating from Ain al-Hilweh known as the "Prince of Al-Qaeda," who has links with networks of militant jihadists and facilitated the Tripoli cell's deadly operations.

Speaking to The Daily Star on condition of anonymity, sources identified the "Prince" as Abed Awad, a Palestinian militant thought to be living in the Ain al-Hilweh camp. They said intelligence suggests Awad has links to Fatah al-Islam and authorities believe he could be the key to capturing the other militant cells in the country.

Officials also revealed more information about how they identified the members of the Tripoli cell. They said that after August's bomb blast in Tripoli, a bank's security camera had captured footage of the device being planted. The tape showed a man disguised as a soldier approaching the bus stop carrying a bag containing the bomb, stopping and chatting with the other soldiers before putting down the bag and leaving. The subsequent explosion ripped through the bus stop, killing 14 people, including nine soldiers and a child.

After the video evidence came to light, security services began a probe to identify the man seen planting the bomb. But before they could act, another explosion rocked Tripoli, this time a remotely detonated car bomb that killed seven people.

Officials said "complete co-ordination" between the LAF and the Internal Security Forces (ISF), as well as information provided by foreign intelligence agencies, had allowed them to capture the Tripoli cell. "Foreign security apparatuses have revealed names and addresses of groups in Lebanon, and the sources of their money and arms," the source said, adding that the cell contained members of "several nationalities."

Security agencies believe the Tripoli cell was just one of many "jihadist" elements in Lebanon. Informed sources describe networks of loosely connected but operationally independent cells, linked only by an extremist ideology and allegiance to mastermind Awad.

The Tripoli cell appears to have been disrupted before it could escalate its bombing campaign further. Sources say the group was planning more spectacular attacks in coming months, including an audacious plot to bomb the headquarters of the ISF in Beirut.

Officials reiterated their commitment to tackling militant groups in Lebanon. "The decision to eradicate terrorist cells has been taken and is not going to be negotiated," a source said. - Additional reporting by Mohammed Zaatari

If they didn't identify that country as Syria yet, it can only mean 2 things:
1- It is not Syria
2- It is a country that was supposed to be our friend (specially since the money sent is supposed to be "helping")
