Sfeir talk is directed towards the others for the first time Profit from this fact and don't turn it on yourself
I guess that is the key difference between us and March 14... But you're right, we should learn a thing or two from them on propaganda and communication...
As for Greg Davis, and although it is not the topic of this thread, I'll reply with one quote:
"3ahd el 3imad 3aoun mada" - B.Sfeir, Fall 1989 (in the midst of the demonstrations against Taef that, objectively, was probably the highest moment of christian, if not Lebanese, unity for / against one project)
Can any of you Patriarch bashers please post an extract of any speach, comment or statement made by the Patriach that makes you dispize him so much?
That way we can analyse such statement and judge him accordingly.
Even when he tells his congregation not to sell their rights, many are still bashing him.
check out the first post of this thread for ur exact sfeir speech.
the wise sfeir is getting bashed here by some cuz he is preaching what he practices not. which is called hypocrisy btw and in political circles is better known as political prostitution especially when a supposedly virgin clergy lord utters it over a holy altar as he sacrifices his community yet again like in the proverbial bible of abbraham, but only to satan this time around.
not once did he so much as squeak a protest against the money brothel cartel of harriri and all its tentacles in qornet shehwan and bristole. yet here he is now preaching, as his little altar boys from fares souad to geagea to gemayel fill their pockets with more harriri electoral funds..
the phone calls home are already ringing to bribe ppl around, so when will the emergency phone line in sfeir’s head finally ring to wake him up from his moral torpor is beyond me as i hear him pronounce more hypocrisy over the airwaves over and over again.
truth be said, after decades of putting up with his social vampirism, the only good deed left that sfeir can do for his community is if he impaled his own dark heart with a wooden stake once and for all as he goes to sleep again in his bed coffin like all good vamps do.
Patriarch Sfeir used to say that the majority rules and the opposition oppose.
now he's calling for the preservation of the consensual Democracy..
I guess the Church realized the way things should be... and they realized that the only one who really worked for Lebanon, the lebanese, the christians and specially the Church as it should be was General Michel Aoun.

The Church has failed in every move it made. And the moves that it made proved to be nothing but destructive to the Christians and their presence, whether they intentionally or due to the lack of comprehension on the Bishops' part. Worse, the Church proved its inability to learn time and time again.
So everything coming out of the Church is in my opinion, even if it sounds like it works for the benefit of Tayyar politically, is it useless for the Christians and most probably dangerous. It is only a matter of time before a transaction is made between Harriri and P. Sfeir for the latter to declare that he meant the Opposition by any negative comment he made.
If the Church really intends to serve the benefit of its people, it needs to shut up and let the people make their political choices, and more importantly respect, support and leverage those choices once made.

Although I feel that the Patriarch has made many mistakes and is clearly biased. Although, I believe that a lot of the clergy and some of the religious are a bunch of very, very corrupt, sleazy and hypocritical pharisees.
Despite all of this, it makes me very uncomfortable to see such hateful remarks and comments with regards to the Patriarch of the Maronite Church. Such spiteful words and setences all eminating from the FPM.
I am sure that many religious leaders in other sects are not without some corruption. I am sure that not all of them have the full support of the people.
What would happen if a Shia, Sunni, Druze or Orthodox religious leader was insulted? What would happen if he was accused of fathering an illegitimate child (breaking his vow of chastity)?
What if he was called "Batrak Sfeir" (a swear word)?
What if this was Hassan Nasrallah o Qabalan or Qabani or any other?
It seems to me that many of those who are saying the insults are either atheists/agnostics/anti-religion or from other religions/sects; though, the former is more likely than the latter.
You secularists can secularise all you want. In fact secularism is but a word for you, because most of you are simply atheists who want a European system. But this brand of secularism will not work in Lebanon. Go see what it has done to the societies of Europe. You probably go there for a holiday and love the fact that people drive safely and queue. But you don't know how broken up their society is. Why? All the result of their stupid revolutions, from the French one to the Russian one ect. So my dear "secularists", go trotsky somewhere else, go Che in Amsterdam and go Marxit in Paris. The Maronite church is staying put and will God willing get stronger...not because of it's """clergy""" but because of it's faithfull and the prayers of it's Saints and Martyrs.
Man, our society is made of people who are basically zealots and bigots politically and religiously. No matter how much we claim to be open and outgoing, we always remain so. Moreover, we are ignorants because we still , throughout decades, clap for some people who are sucking our blood and lying just in front of our eyes just because it feeds our political and religious bigotry. Our society is primitive to be honest, and mentality like yours would ensure its further decadence.
Now, to be honest what you said had no purpose whatsoever to begin with. Someone attacking the Patriarch is not necessarily attacking the church or the religion. They are the attacking the man and his views and the "righteousness" of his religion has nothing to do with them having to stop their criticism. It is ridiculous the way you moved from that to a debate about the society.
On the topic, the Patriarch has not said anything new. It is another attack to level things up with the FPM's campaign who initially started the warnings against " bought votes ". The LF has always used the technique of blaming the other side whatever they are blamed for. The Patriarch is doing the same except he is exploiting his position knowing how influential that is and how easily it could turn things upside down. It is silly to think he had a sudden revelation of some sort.

So here it is as predicted. I hope I am wrong but history tought us to think this way.
