This is the stupidiest thing I have ever heard, Why christians still attack other christians in Lebanon just because they come from another branch of christianity. I am just waiting to the day when Lebanon will become a secular state if that happens to hang all those who attacked innocent people for their own believe. There is a special person I would dream to see hanged which is the batrack. I will pay to see him hanged in public if there is no space to watch.

August 6, 2006 - Addiyar - Bishop Njeim: No Right to Build a Baptist Church in Maronite Region

Bishop Njeim: No Justification for Building a Baptist Church in a Region whose Overwhelming Majority is Maronite

We received the following from the secretary of the Sarba Office of the Maronite Patriarchy:

Khalil Naja Tabet and the Priest Father Paul Sfeir called Bishop Paul Guy Njeim, the Patriarchal Representative [Bishop] of the Sarba population, since he is of the Maronite Patriarchal Parish, and informed him that a person who appears to be of the Baptist group requested a permit to build a residence and suddenly built a church for them. And they went about distributing invitations to the commencement of this church, after having built under it two floors and set up a printing press and modern computer and internet equipment. When the members of the Ajaltoun congregation knew of this invitation, they revolted and were enraged about this deed which they considered a con act, knowing also that there were no followers of the Baptists in Ajaltoun. So hundreds gathered on the day of the commencement and there was a confrontation between the two parties, which required calling the Rayfoun police to separate the two parties.

And two days ago the confrontation was renewed between the Baptists and the members of the congregation, and this confrontation evolved into the utterance of insulting and damaging words, scuffling, striking, and the shedding of blood, which required three of them to enter St. George Hospital in Ajaltoun. As a result of this situation, a sectarian crisis began to erupt between the two parties. So calls took place at the highest levels to the interior ministry, Attorney General, the District Representative, and Head Offices of the Lebanon's Mountain Region to calm the situation.

The report added: Bishop Guy Njeim wants to make the following known to public opinion:

First: We did not need this crisis in the midst of these particular difficult circumstances, in which Lebanon is being struck, being exposed to a harsh war whose innocent victims pass on by the hundreds, and the homes and infrastructure are being destroyed.

Second: There is utterly no justification for building a Baptist church in a Christian area whose overwhelming majority is Maronite. Thus, if those who built it willed to draw away the weak and poor from the members of the Maronite population of Sarba, this will be resisted strongly, as is the case in the Ajaltoun congregation, and the decrees of the Council of Churches of the Middle East prohibit building churches in areas without followers therein.

Third: After purchasing a large printing press and placing it under the church building in one of the three underground floors, the following questions pose themselves to the mind: What is the intention behind printing these books? For whom are these books and publications being printed in a Maronite Christian area? Has its owner obtained a license to print the books and publications?

Fourth: We request of the Attorney General to close this building which became a church and to forbid the congregation of the Baptists inside it, lest the troublesome works be renewed, and that which is of unpraiseworthy results take place in the future.

Fifth: We call for all to return to correctness, to solving all problems calmly, to edifying discussions, and to mutual respect.

NO RIGHT TO BUILD IN A MARONITE AREA? WHERE DOES THIS MOTRAN LIVE, IN THE MIDDLE AGES STILL?
We have a mosque built in Vatican you racist person and you would not allow your brothers in Christianity to build a church? I hate this institution called church, it is a haven for crooks, haters, sectarian minds. Is this what God and his son Jesus have left us? It is despicable.

I will clarify. Baptists is a denomination of the Protestant church similar to adventists, methodists, presbyterian, etc....all under the Evangelical/Protestant umbrella. The sect has been around since the 1800s, created by the first wave of American christian missionaries who built AUB, ACS, IC, BUC (now LAU), etc.

There is 1 Protestant MP in lebanon, Beirut 3 district, currently represented by Bassem El Chab. The protestants talked to GMA prior and during the Doha negotiations, tried to transfer the seat to Beirut 1, but FM was very adamant to maintain control, in addition to the minorities MPs, currently represented by Nabil De Freige. Its easier to monopolize a smaller community without political backup.

For your information, the community overwhelmingly supported GMA since 1988. Their dwindling numbers due to significant immigration is their major enemy.

I didn't get it: why did Noujeim and Tabet attack the baptist church? What is their excuse? Is it just because the difference of thoughts? Why just attacking the baptist, their are many other branches of church? Maybe the problem is just secular not religious.

Off the post, Is there any protestant church in Lebanon that is connected to the neo-zionist churches in USA? Some reports say that at least 10% of Americans follow such churches.

EDIT: Sorry I wrote this before reading Youcha's post.

The major permise of the Baptist (Protestant) movement in the 16th Century was to protest the Pope's control over everything. The Protestant argument has always been the separation between State and Church.

They believe that the Pope and no one for that matter should act as an intermediary between humans and God.

As long as they are away from his area of authority, it's OK. De Friej and Bassem AlShabb are both Protestants but as long as they are in Beirut then it's OK.
