Under the current government, don't expect anything positive about it. Those people can only steal us and divide us, they can never solve any problem we have. So until we have a real government that will deal with the roots of problems and solve them, better stick to helping the people at least to have the basics, and this push for rebuilding falls into that category.
Yes, I agree (how can I not agree) I do think though that the victims of that war aren't HA or IDF but those civilians who were trapped on both sides, bystanders who weren't carrying guns and who had absolutely no interest in warfare, still they paid the highest price with their lives and property...
They do deserve all the help possible but also the guarantee that this will never happen again... pls tell me who can tell these people you will be safe and prosperous......they need assurances so many assurances, that no one is able to make in Lebanon and that s the saddest truth......

The Fidar Bridge is being built by Francois Bassil the owner of Byblos Bank. However, this is the government's job, and as thus, the government wants to take the initiative and do it itself. They want Bassil to give them the money and they'll build it. However, Mr. Bassil knows that a $2 million project will end up costing $6 million with this government. Hence, the wait to rebuild Burj Al Fidar Bridge.

The same problem is with the Ghazir Bridge. Indevco Group, owned by the late Mr. Georges Frem's family, have sponsored the rebuilding of that bridge. And the same story, they want to take full control of the rebuilding of the bridge (who to contract and subcontract) because of their distrust of our very trustful government. I mean, come on, can you blame them?

Rami, rebuilding a damaged bridged is not a magic wand. There's a lot of studies and analysis that must be done to determine the scope of the work needed to be done. They might have to do tests on other parts of the bridges that weren't damaged to make sure they still have their structural integrity. Trust me, even here in the US, it takes 10 years to build a bridge, and we're not talking about fixing damaged bridge! Google "Wilson Woodrow Bridge" or "Springfield Interchange" and you'll see for yourself how many years it takes!

However, if these bridges were in downtown Beirut or in Quraytem, believe me, there would have been a lot more interest by the government to get the ball rolling.

(PM me for more informations about this issue - My Informations are 100% true)
