The 2005 Elections were won by the FPM in Christian dominated areas, not solely for their ethical and social policies alone. There were many contributing factors such as:
The quadripartate alliance, and Christians' fear of ineffective representation
Hizbullah arms
The people's frustration with the Syrian regime and GMA's open defiance to this regime
Voter backlash to the unfair electoral law
The monstrous accumulated debt
And the list goes on
Its 2009, and the parameter have changed, as has GMA and the FPM so it is just natural for the political strategy to change.
To begin with
The quaripartite alliance is no longer there,
Hibullah arms and the july 06 war
The Syrian regime is a now a potential ally rather than a threat
Lebanon's detainees are still in syria
The electoral law has been ammended to offer better representation
The monstrous debt is still there and increasing exponantially, and the FPM is now a part of the government.
In short , The FPM are now a part of the system, and the lebanese people are just exhausted and could do with a helping hand. This doesn't mean they are selling their soul, it just means they are accepting free services they need and in ordinary times would go without due to hardship.
If this strategy is going to win the election, use it, because others are, you might even beat them at their own gaame | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Greg Davis For This Useful Post: | | | Registered Member

day by day FPM is becoming more and more like the other political parties we got in Lebanon | My point is that :
Buying votes is a criminal offence throughout the developed world, to which, jail is a typical punishment. In Lebanon, it is acceptable and has become a way of life. Considering the fact that the FPM in recent years has become part of the system, particularly with their retraction from numerous key policies, I see no harm in providing free services to the needy. For one, it is a clear and effective strategy adopted by their opponents, and two, no one seems to think less of politicians there in Lebanon if they did so. If offering free services will get the votes of the needy, go for it, because this election will determine the fate of the fpm and lebanon as a whole. If it means getting down and dirty , get down and dirty. I can assure you , your foes will grant no mercy.

Orange Room Moderator

Legislators' work should be in parliament. People vote for MP's not cus they're doctors or pimps or engineers or lawyers or sermeye, but for their platform and political perspective and program.
If they happen to have other careers, let them do it from behind the scenes, without any pathetic coverage.
