I personally think the major problem with FPM happened in 2005 election when it won comprehensively in the christian heartland. That propelled it into a major status party and somehow forced it to cater to its christian street at the expense of the secularist philosophy it was advocating.

Since then it has been shrinking. Had it started out with humble winning it could have pursued its philosophy more freely and recruited people to a ceratin line of thinking rather than becoming just another party. So it peaked way too early and when it was in an amorphous stage. Therefore each person had ( and still has) his/her idea of the party irrespective of whether the party is what these people believe it is.

The dissatisfaction in directly related to unfulfilled expectations which the party did nothing to hose down and hence disappointment.

I suggest you guys wait another 5 years because in all likelihood in the next election the FPM will lose most of its seats and maybe then it can go back to its philosophical roots and grow again.

Yeslam Temmak

I remember days where we used to work under the stairs
we used not to worry about any credits
these days no body is in this mentality anymore
if you come to fix something they will think you are coming to shift them from their positions while this is the last you think about it.

what a shame!

this approach would be the right one for change, it has to start from within!

Suit yourself, but in that case activism is not the answer. You must endeavor to reform the party itself.

What do you mean by new banner? I am guessing here you mean someone to take it back to its charter which makes it its old banner.

What I am suggesting is an activist and popular movement that adopts the "Old Discarded Principles" under a fresh banner and a new (independent of today's FPM) activist organization.

Did you ever ponder the possibility that the party may have come to the conclusion that its ODP are not as workable as their nature might suggest or even the realities of Lebanese society? It opted for a more pragmatic approach to protect its popularity first and reflect the status quo in society or else lose relevance second. So the choice is between ODP and relevance and let the chips fall where they may.

I am myself happy to sit on the fence until Aoun ceases to be its leader and then gauge its chances of successful continuity.

I did ponder plenty, but it wasn't very successful pondering :), I couldn't stomach the fake Pragmaticorealism dish that was served to the people...

I am all for patient and disciplined ODP driven progress that derives its credibility and support from the people and only from the people... 2005 offered a wonderful opportunity for that, but it was squandered...

Guess what?
I'm convinced that whatever we do or will be doing, Nothing much will change in this farm.

FPM with its values and principles, reaching all what you are wishing for and much more will not fix things.
And if we can't, nobody can.

The thing is we'll be doing it for ourselves, seeking this continuous inner peace we are living with.
