He may get more. The parliamentary elections here in June are shaping up to be among the most expensive ever held anywhere, with hundreds of millions of dollars streaming into this small country from around the globe.
All the major political groups deny buying votes, which is illegal under Lebanese law, but election monitors acknowledge that it is a routine practice. “Since the 1990s, more money has been coming in,” said Paul Salem, the director of the Carnegie Middle East Center here. “Unfortunately, the system adjusts to that and in a way comes to expect it, especially among the poor.”
Candidates and political parties generally will not admit to receiving money from abroad
Some voters, especially in competitive districts, receive cold calls offering cash for their vote. But mostly the political machines work through local patriarchs known as “electoral keys,” who can deliver the votes of an entire clan in exchange for money or services — scholarships, a hospital, repaved roads and so on.
EVERYONE BUYS VOTES... |
Dude
I don't know who is buying votes in Lebanon and who is not, but I know that the loyalists refused to amend the constitution to let people outside Lebanon votes while they sent makhatir to Australia. FPM wanted to have the people outside votes and if the loyalists agreed there would not be a need for flying people to vote, but if FM does not want all Lebanese outside to vote but will fly those who will vote for them just so that they win, eh fashartou, we will not give you this luxury, we will play your game on your own turf and we will fly people too to defeat you, because if we don't la fi majles doustouri wall fi ballout that will change things later.
You should have accepted to amend the law and let people outside Lebanon vote, you're the reason to blame for this whole masquerade. | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

If the author could not find an iranian source (which he would have stated: i.e. Iranian embassy contacted but did not wish to comment), why didn't he talk about rumours of Iranians paying FOR THE ELECTION? Why did he specify Iranians have been funding HA for a while and did not mention the elections?

They show that everyone is buying votes ok? So wake up and come back from lalaland and realize the truth.... | All you said here proves that FPM is paying its voters HOW EXACTLY?????
And are you saying that HA are paying people to vote for them? So if they do not pay the people, those will vote for who exactly?
And assuming that HA are paying their people, I do not care if HA is paying its voters in the South and Dahyeh, or if Saad Hariri is paying his people in Tripoli and Beirut and where the Sunni vote is important. BUT SAAD HARIRI IS PAYING HIS FILTHY MONEY IN CHRISTIAN AREAS TO BUY THE CHRISTIAN VOTES. Why is that?
And did you miss what Ahmad el Assad said or you just like to skip parts:
I need tools to fight back, and if the Saudis have an interest in building a state here, why shouldn’t I take advantage of that?” said Mr. Asaad, an American-educated businessman, during an interview at his office just outside Beirut.
This coming a from an ally and someone sponsored by Saudis, thank you very much.
So enough talk about wilayet el Fakih and such a ****, the one thinking of establishing a state in Lebanon is Saudi Arabia through its puppet Sa3ouda.
Finally, to me as a Christian, these past months were crucial for me to see which side treats its Christian allies as partners, respects them and gives them the value they deserve, and I saw which side treats its Christian allies as S-it, throws at them seats as if throwing a bone to a dog, and treating them of all the names without them even having the decency to reply.
Do you expect us Christians to put our fate in the hands of those impotent people? Think again. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Youchka For This Useful Post: | | | Registered Member

Did I say FPM? But the article said that it is common practice for the major politicians to buy votes...
It is election season in Lebanon, and Hussein H., a jobless 24-year-old from south Beirut, is looking forward to selling his vote to the highest bidder.
Everyone is buying votes so YOU should stop picking the parts of the article you like and throwing the rest in the trash... | | | | | | |
