let's not talk about his sideline intentions for a sec.
what did he mean by saying "we in lebanon will not start any direct negotiations with israel for our own national interest(???)"
does he mean it's our own national interest to not go into direct negotiations (cuz then he said the government can take that decision), or does he mean we can't do those negotiations because they would be in our national interest ???
that boy makes no sense to me sometimes. | | | | | Registered Member

that boy makes no sense to me sometimes. | for our own national interest, we in lebanon will not start any direct negotiations with israel.
does this look clearer? | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

does this look clearer? | ok thx, it's clearer now. u should help him with his future speeches.
but tell me, if this is what he means, how did he immediately follow it up with "only the government combined is the one that takes the decision"
so basically, he will be ok with the direct-negotiation move (which is not to our national interest according to him) if the government decides at some point to take it?
cuz i'm lost here, is he talking about this matter based on principles or pragmatism ? | | | | | Registered Member

What he basically means is that he and FM are against it, however if some feel the need for it, the decision whether to go through with it or not will be taken in the government combined. | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

Hariri just thought (was advised) that he got here a nice opportunity to score 2 points in 1 shot:
1-By trying to show that he indeed considers Israel as his fierce enemy,so we cannot accuse him anymore (that's what he thinks) of serving the Zionist agenda.
2-By trying to imply that GMA is asking for negotiations with Israel, while GMA actually said that no negotiations between Syria and Israel will succeed either on the expenses of Lebanon,or without Lebanon being part of them.

but as i said earlier, gma 'didn't force' anything on him nor did he pass a gobal judgment on the lebanese, he just voiced his opinion quickly. i don't see why saad felt he had to reply with the 'government argument' point like that.
politicians daily voice many opinions of all calibers, amine said we should think about a federation but hariri didn't tell him to go through the government, instead he clapped for him.
arghh, somehow i don't think saad's intentions here where so innocent and straightforward as this. hehe
so i still stick by my original notion that he simply negatively reacted to something gma said without giving the matter much thought really. as usual might i add. | | | | | Registered Member

good i like that.
but, according to his own logic, did saad go through the government himself when he said that it's not in our best interest to go to direct negotiations ?
cuz u see dude, what i have issue with here is not what saad said, but what the heck he said, i have issues with the logic of his few sentences hehe
he said something that really doesn't fit all that well by itself. | | | | | | |
