I will tell you an incident that happened with me this Summer....
I reached the Sports Cafe traffic lights in Beirut. When I reached the signal it turned from Yellow to red. I stopped. There was a policeman controlling the traffic and he told me to pass. I pointed with my hand that it is red. He continued pointing with his hand for me in order to move, so I though that he is in charge. I moved and there was another car in front of me that also moved. As we crossed there was another policeman in the front who told us to stop :S
He asked why you didn't stop, so me and the other driver told him that ur colleague told us to move. He called his colleague and asked him. The other policeman lied and denied it. He took my driving license and issued a fine of LL50,000.
The next day we went to the police station in Badaro, nacharna 7areemon , we took the driving license and we didn't pay any single penny. A big officer claimed that a lot of complaints are being reported against policeman doing such acts.....
I hope they improve in the future.....they need to fix most of the roads though.... | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

I totally respect the traffic rules, I always stopped at red lights not just now because there are fines, but they also need to "yekhdo el 3alam bi helmoun chwey".
2 days ago I was driving next to Biel, if anyone knows the area there, he or she knows that there is first a kou3 to get to Biel then there is a red light just after it, so there is no way in that area to overspeed. I was going to work, of course late, when a policeman stopped me right after the light. I really did not know what was the issue, since I had kmy seatbelt on, was not talking on the phone, stopped at the red light.... He goes: do you know what is your moukhelafeh? I said no I don't. He said overspeed, there is a sign (which they probably have put that day or the day before I never noticed it) that says that the speed limit is 50 and you were going faster than that.
Now I do not know how fast I was going, how faster than the 50, however, this is not the issue. The guy took my driving license, and I had to go all the way to Tayouneh to pay the fine and get back my license. I went today, I spent 2 hours on the roads to get there, because as usual all roads are blocked with achghal, not to mention the traffic I was stuck in this morning because of the rain.
I respect the laws, I have no problem with paying when I break the law, but let them not consider the people as fararij to butcher, and let them try to make people's lives a bit easier. Add ma kenet speeding, I can't reach 60 there, when I see people driving 130 on the highways without being stopped.
I also would have paid the fine right away and not waste half a day going from street to another trying to get to tayouneh.
Also, let them fix the streets, of course people will speed a bit when we are sooooo late to their work, universities, schools, because of a bit of rain, this is inadmissible.
When I was stopped, 5 other cars were stopped within 3 minutes, I gather they all paid 53000 as I did, I wonder where all this money is going and couldn't we buy a helicopter with all that additional money the government is doing on an hourly basis? | | | | | Registered Member

it is somthing good to apply the driving rules and regulations and implement them harshly, however the ISF are exceeding their limits...Today i was ambushed by a patrol for the ISF inside a very small one way street where drivers can't drive more than 20km/h, nevertheless i was asked for my seatbelt...
Ya tokho ya ksrelo mokho
Moreover,i believe that the ISF should set their priorities, although i repeat that it is good to implement the internal driving regulations, but the ISF should arrest first the car thieves on baabdat highway and the brital car thieves and the terrorist attacks allover the country... | | | | | Registered Member

on a serious note, i fully agree with what you said, the ISF ( especially the darak) are ambushing people in a very filthy way, like thieves... | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

Driving rules being applied in Lebanon? Am I dreaming??
I applaud Zaid Baroud's campaign, but alas, just like everything else in Lebanon, it starts off strong and eveyone is excited. Ultimately, it dies down and people get back into jungle mode. Did you forget Elias Murr's campaign? This will be the same. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Libnene Qu7 For This Useful Post: | | | Orange Room Supporter

I have a question, do scooter drivers stop at red lights?
last time I was in Lebanon, every time I was crossing an intersection I had to look left and right to make sure that no scooters are passing.
I was once at one of the intersections on Jdeideh highway, and when the light turned green, the cars started moving, only to find a scooter not stopping on the red light and you can immagine the rest, after all the cars had to suddenly break or else risk killing him, أكل شي ميت مسبة
A couple of more stories, one of them is a car hitting a police Biker in Ashrafieh, قلب المعتر عالارض
The other one is, In front of Sukleen in Karantina, there is a U-turn on the highway, and I had my left signal on to make a left turn, but the scooter decided to pass to my left while I was about to turn left, thank god I checked my left sided mirror before making the turn, and managed to brake just in time to have him pass, or else I would have hit him, and you can immagine the rest أكل شي ميت مسبة | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

Thumbs down to Ziad Baroud. This is not how we apply the rules. Let him 1st apply those rules on the ISF who drive with no seat belts, who drive 3aksel ser, lli bi 3arbcho 3al 3alam 3al tor2at coz mech ech3ine 7ada... Ma bi 7otto zabet 3ala 7ada meche settine 3al tari2. Furthermore, driving 100 km/h on the highway is killing. It should be a 120! 3rd, let them organize the roads and the trafic on the roads and than ask people not to drive fast. And as far as I know, laws are made for the public well being, and not to trick people infairly to get some money. | | | | | | |
