you are talking about health, that is fine, unfortunatly, it is not what is used to be. Trasportaion is a joke, fro example the west of the island do not have access to the metro, they have a train line that 40% of the time is running late.
Dear Danny I can name 100 cities in the americas that are far better than montreal. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Wolf For This Useful Post: | | | Registered Member

the bottom line is that this report is not accurate.
So I shouldn't worry about the rank of Beirut. | | | | | Registered Member

take the posts of some people here for example asking about 24 hr electricity and good sanitation or public transport or safety
compare these traits to those of Riyadh and you sure know Riyadh definitely ranks first.
Take 'night clubs' and partying as a trait and compare Beirut to Riyadh and you have the opposite.
Its just a matrix of several traits, each individual sees some traits as more important than others or cares about some and doesn't care about others (if you have a generator for example, would you care that in 2009 there isn't electricity coverage, just 'tokk el degenteur').
Got my point? I think what this research did is take the 'key traits' with the 'key weights'. And looking at all these traits/ you'd know Beirut sure rank behind those other cities. and its a consistent research thats been around for years with comparisions between different years.
PS: If pollution is a trait, would you rank Montreal high or low? | | | | | Registered Member

According to lebanese geography classes "lebnan doumn 3alam il janoub" because of the lack of health care, political instability, GDP per capita, and so on... | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

I need a public park for my kids to regularly play in, and run, and hike, and have all kind of outdoor fun, and breathe fresh air, and listen to the birds singing, and contemplate nature and sit under trees or on the grass near some big natural pool, relaxing or reading, having some peace and tranquility.
This...I can't get in Lebanon. And this alone, makes me put Lebanon in the bottom of the list, when it comes to quality of life.
My next post will be about dust and sound pollution. | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Abou Sandal For This Useful Post: | | | Registered Member

Dear Danny I can name 100 cities in the americas that are far better than montreal. | Transportation is not a joke, most US cities do not have a metro or a train, in Montreal you can reach any spot you want using public transport, you have bixies as well if a bus, metro or train is not what you want.
The metro does not need to go west island, rich people don't take the metro even if it is at their backdoor, and the concentration of population is not in west island, west island is still flat buildings are in middle class areas, however busses go there, so you are not completely stripped, you need to see the traffic on the 5 in LA/Orange county and you have to take the highway there are no alternatives. Cities infrastructures are crumbling all over the world not only in Montreal, a small overpass fell in Montreal a huge bridge fell in Minesota. The corruption in the city is still an accusation, We have seen worse in US cities, you forgot the SD senator or the Blago-ballouta who was offering Obama seat for money. Accusation of corruption are everywhere they are actually not counted in the quality of living if they don't affect it directly. | | | | | Registered Member

My next post will be about dust and sound pollution. | It's not really true. There are still some gorgeous areas not very far from Beirut. Try areas above Safra (in altitude) or Shnana3ir (might have gotten the name wrong) in the Jounieh area. However, of course, you have to make sure that you don't get killed getting there because of the roads and the nasty and unregulated truck drivers.
Beirut though is heavily polluted, even in comparison to a 8 million plus city such as New York (forget the suburbs). When I came back for the summer, I really didn't know how I was able to survive there for so long.

My next post will be about dust and sound pollution. | I hate public parks.
You could have all that in Lebanon and much more had there been a proper transport system and more safety. No need for a public park when you can have your own private sanctuary. I'd build a house in the south among the flowers and trees if I could travel to work with no dramas... When it comes to nature, Lebanon is heaven. We just need to work on our transport system, that would solve so many problems. | | | | | Registered Member

The need for public park is essential in cities, if it hadn't been of AUB there would not be any green left. Cities designate areas and call them public parks so that not everything becomes concrete, unfortunately there is nothing as such in Lebanon. Bled el kissarat.
