Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun met “several times with representatives from the Israeli Mossad in Paris, during the period of his exile between 1991 and 2005,” the French newspaper Le Figaro reported on Thursday.

According to the paper, French intelligence officers charged with monitoring Aoun’s movements advised him to avoid meeting with agents of a country Lebanon was still officially at war with.

“However, the Christian General refused to listen to these warnings. At the time, Michel Aoun was one of the primary opponents of the Syrian military presence in Lebanon. As for now, the general has changed his mind and positioned himself, since his return in 2005, within the group that includes Hezbollah and has found it necessary to establish good relations with Damascus,” the newspaper reported, adding that news of Aoun’s contacts with Mossad would not be appreciated by his Syrian friends.

What do you guys think of this article to come out of Le Figaro?
What did GMA negotiate with the Israeli's?
Was it part of his efforts to promote the Syria Accountability Act in 2003?
Was it to enhance his position with the Americans during his exile in France?
Comments?
Mashallah, the timing is perfect, but can you do better then the usual habits of the "NOW" "FUTURE" "LBC" and now le figaro ..? eno if you used a foreign sources ye3ni Sar 3endkoun CREDIBILITY ?? haaaaaaa
heida eflasss.......... mouto bi ghaizkoun, mosh 3erfinen sho badkoun ta3mlo other than scratching the image of this person GMA. you need to do a GMA-REHAB sessions (ya 7aram )to get used to this man, because he is staying and you are going down the drains.
Again the timing is ironic , and the credibility of the sources is cheap like jumblat, hariri, ja3ja3 and co.... este7o 3ala 7alkoun ba2a, !
And for my fellow lebanese readers, i say USE your logic not your heart and see beyound your noses. Wel ghasheem yestofil ydalo ghasheem.

It seems that Sarkozy is somewhat jalous of our dear General.

Wonder what will be his next step

Just because Le Figaro is anti-Hizballah/Iran/Bashar it does not mean this report is false. At the time these meetings allegedly took place, GMA was a staunch opponent of the current Syrian government (i.e. Bashar) and was heavily in favor of disarming Hizballah. He was also testifying in front of the American Congress in favor of the Syrian Accountability Act in 2003. Given the circumstances, a meeting with Mossad is plausible.
The timing of the article is suspect, but in the world of international politics what goes around comes around.

It doesn't mean it's true either.

Not necessarily. Why didn't GMA meet with the Mossad back in the late eighties when he really needed them to fight Syria?

Have you read the article of Georges Malbrunot during the july war in 2006?
It was an interview and an important sentence said by GMA was changed in order to make a big title. And it did as all the tv news (in France) on the morning were talking about this sentence.

The same night, this same news never existed. Big silence. Not even an apologize. Tayyar.org published the audio file where we can hear that general Aoun never pronounce this sentence.

Wheter it was during the war or today, all is done to decrease the historical action of our dear general. Yesterday, it was his historical stands against israelis aggression, today it is his historical visit in Syria where we discover that the people there appreciate him (as a human and a politician) more than us!!

Don't give importance to these lies, they only highlight the great decisions taken by general Aoun.
