Icon5 The June 7th opposition defeat, a strategic victory. - 2nd July 2009

The June 7th opposition defeat, a strategic victory.

It’s worth mentioning all parties believe they lost. The loyalists thought they invested enough money to displace GMA completely and get him out of the picture while the opposition though it should have won the majority regardless of the heavy foreign interference.
In reality, the opposition’s defeat is a strategic victory. Remember when SHN declared the outcome of the 2006 Israeli war against HA a strategic victory despite the atrocious massacres committed against them; many didn’t understand it because they can’t think long term strategy.
By not winning the parliamentary majority, the opposition can sit and watch the loyalists eat their words out. All the fear tactics they used proved insulting to our intelligence. HA didn’t overthrow the government but Zahleh for sure was overthrown by Hariri something that GMA could have begged for them to believe him and they wouldn’t.
I can say for sure, every Christian loyalist that read the facts of Zahleh was shocked and started showing remorse. Those Christians are in fact the ones that tipped the balance in favor of those who abolished Good Friday as an official holiday.
The bad economic situation started showing its ugly face already. The gas prices are just the beginning. The Saudi money invested in Lebanon is not in the best interest of the average Lebanese. It causes a painful inflation. How many Lebanese can afford to buy a $350.000 apartment for their children? Soon, they’ll find themselves working for a foreigner in their own country.
The loyalist’s victory will be short lived because they can’t fool everyone every time. Next time will be different as long as the opposition hangs in there. Timing is everything.
That is why; the opposition must participate in the government and make sure it gets its fair share.
The opposition participation must be used as a seed to be grown into a majority.
The opposition must prove its presence to make a difference and show the loyalists that they missed a great opportunity more valuable than the cash they took. Hopefully they’ll overcome such temptations next time around and do what’s really in their best interest as Lebanese citizens.

I disagree,

they can easily fool people in particulary in Lebanon by their over inflated supply of funds of propaganda campaigns which helps as we have seen now.

The gas prices, 350K apartments can be hidden under a rug by simply introducing "threats" of existence on the ground in terms of what the "opposition is capable" of doing. The media campaign that was played against the opposition is of fear which was typical under George W.

Too bad some in Lebanon were deceived by the same people who were in charge during the civil war. Except now, they officially have palaces in parts of the country.

Such an authentic text Abizeid, I couldn't agree more with those sentences, the rest remains speculation, but those sentences are what dwells in my heart and what is pure reality and fact worthy mentioning a billion times with a tear in our eyes.

But unfortunately Lebanese are even able to lie to themselves and convince themselves that it is right and meant to be so just so that they would not admit their mistake. يعني بعد فترة بصيرو يقولو إن هيك زحله أحسن فكذب ع نفسٌ وبصدقو كزبتن

As in the first point mistakes are covered and the worse is that Tarek Mitri was compensated and Sanioura gave his nephew a deputy seat in Koura.
To death with Good Friday, the most important is to please Sanioura.

هيدا مش بلد هيدا مصلخ المواطن
ما بأى فينا نعلم ولادنا. بتعرف شو يعني؟ يعني نحو الأمية والشعب الأمي سهل السيطرة ع قراره

Saudi money is not being submitted into the government's budget but in the pockets of Hariri and he can do and let with the money whatever he wants. This is no longer Saudi Lebanese relationship, but Hariri/Saudi relationship. Same goes to Hizbullah/Iran relationship. This country is completely xxxxxx up and is not dealt with as an institution but on an individual religious basis.

Beside the fact that most Lebanese are not even able to pay their rent, the foreigners are already infiltrated and we are working for them, but dare you dare you dare you oppose and protest, they will try to destroy you, and they may succeed

I agree that they must join because they have more to win than to lose, more to realize than to observe, more to particpate in.
Let us hope that the 14 traitors of the nation, will feel challenged and will work, I would not be sad. But I doubt that things will be better in the future.

well said.

of ocurse many of the 14shbatt have no remorse in zahle, but a minority who voted for them does.

making sure that we get back this section is all what we need.

in 2013 we might not need that if the ELECTION LAW IS NESSBIYYE.

do you realy think the christian loyalistes read or analyse anything at all ? they do not care they are not shocked nor feel remorse you should listen to them now more then ever they think they are the rulling majority they keep lying not to us but to themselves and thats what is so dangerous they do not realise what happened or worse they do not care ! ya khayeh fi ness ma bet chouf ab3ad men monkhara .

do you think any of this rulling mafia care about the price of benzine ? or rabtit el khebez ? or the crazy prices of the basic items a person need to "survive" in this circus called country? the citizens are living a daily hell while their mafiosi leaders are building palaces
for years we are paying double for every thing now more then ever , let me give you an exemple now that our dear "touristes" started to invade our country they have the priority in every thing villages like ours are deprived from water why ? because the priority is for the hotels the private villas .... who cares we can buy citern at 75$ every 15 days ... next week it might go up to 85$ depends on the price of mazout !

the christian loyalistes can never be realistic am yeklouha bel 3atika they will live under poverty and all sort of deprivation on all levels yet they prefer this 3ala eno GMA or FPM get anything !

the opposition is here to stay 3ala albon w belli biyeb2o rah men kamil !

It's nice to see that there are still some people who still have hope for Lebanon. In 2013, the Palestianians would have settled and Lebanon as we know it will no longer exist. So forgive me if I am not as hopeful as you are, actually I am disgusted.

I disagree. I think the loss was a Saudi-Syrian deal, i think there are no more forces for change in lebanon, everyone is playing the same old politics.

If you think the loyalists win will now expose them, i disagree again. Theyve been ruling for 20 years and have been exposed time and time again. People have either short memories or blind greed.

Nothing that a media revinvention or 1000$ on election day cant cure.

Weve been thinking its going to happen "next time" for years. Its not. Not with the way things are going.

Your allies dont think like you, theyre a part of the traditional pie-sharing system. Hell, maybe the leadership doesnt think like you anymore. At least it doesnt seem like it.

Everyone is silent and everyone played along while saudis and syrians were shaking hands.

The June 7th elections results, I would like to interpret them as a victory on the long run, but unfortunately most of the Lebanese people can be bought for 100 $ along with their religious and political authorities. So I don't know if this fact can be ever changed.

Those who are worried about FPM after GMA, mind your own business cos FPM and GMA will take care of this !!
