Issam Fares has done a lot of community services in areas like akkar where the "government" has been absent for decades, so before accusing him in applying "clientalism" try to find an alternative to the services he is providing to more than 300,000 citizens deprived from water, electricity, phone lines, as well as the basic needs of life in dignity. better ask yourself "wayni el dawle" instead of being judgemental and skeptical

being from akkar myself, and as much as i dislike fares for personal and political reasons
credence to him for not being a michel murr type
when he used to be involved at least he didn't bribe. instead he would by the unsold produce form the farmers, horses form the breeders, etc... year long insuring they all had some form of income all year and making a profit of selling and working the products he bought. it's not saint michael but at least it's better than a gallon of oil or $100 before election day | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Hierombalos For This Useful Post: | | | Registered Member

regards | the above description fits within the ''clientelism'' description as provided by DI in another thread...
but as u said, given Lebanon's structure, Issam Fares' actions can be justified too, in the absence of government as u stated...

regards | Here's 30 LL: It is NOT OK for someone to provide socio-economic services in the expectation of political support, regardless of an existent or non-existent state infrastructure.

when you have no other alternative, "clientalism" as u like to call it becomes THE one and ONLY solution for people to work and be productive, for children to eat and men to labor their lands, so IMHO searching for the roots of the problem will help us solve it rather than treating the Symptoms without a radical "once and for all" medication. the man's aim was never to blackmail or "buy" people's votes nor brainwashing them, as far as i know he helped with more than 30 % of the budget of the University of Balamand, had it not be there, 4000 students will be finding difficulties pursuing their higher education, (mainly northern Lebanon communities)

PSP: helping al jabal
HA/Amal: building the south, Bekaa and hermel
FM: rennovating (former) "west" beirut, tripoli,Saida
SF: New-Zgharta
FPM: ???? why?? simply because FPM does not depend or breath from "overseas" money, nor did FPM "milk" the State over the las 18 years to fill in their pockets, and the "blanks" in their miniature cantons | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

regards | Let's assume that Issam Fares did not use his provided services in order to get to power, let us say that he got elected as a MP in order to produce a change for the betterment of the people..
What are Issam Fares achievements during his tenure in parliament or in the government that warrant his re-election as a MP... Did you even consider that or is it about the $$$ services that he's providing within his consituency? | | | | | | |
