Default Israel: what is the REALISTIC solution? - 31st December 2008

EMOTIONS ASIDE, what do you think is the REALISTIC solution for the Israeli-Arab conflict? (READ THE POST BELOW BEFORE VOTING)
1- Resistance will eliminate Israel?
2- Israel will eliminate Resistance?
4- Moderates from both sides will prevail and reach a compromise solution?
3- Israel and the Resistance will co-habitate?

Throughout the unfortunate events in Gaza, and even during the 2006 aggression against Lebanon, we always hear sides vowing to eliminate the other. Israel vowed to eliminate HA in 2006, if failed. Israel is vowing to eliminate Hamas now, and we all know that Israel has failed to eliminate the Palestinian resistance in the past 60 years. Both HA and Hamas keep vowing to eliminate Israel. Can they really do that? With all the support and the military power of Israel, can it be "eliminated"? It might be defeated in its aggressions on others, but can it be "wiped out"? and will the rest of the world just sit back and watch HA and/or Hamas "wiping out" Israrel?

PUT EMOTIONS ASIDE, it sounds unrealistic to believe that anyone can "eliminate" the other. Unfortuntely, the moderates on both sides are the silent minority (or majority?). Whenever there are elections, tensions are fueled and extremists end up winning, and extremists are those who vowe to eliminate the other, hence the continuous wars.

Again, EMOTIONS aside, what do you believe is the realistic solution. What can actually happen and be acceptable by the majority of the people to bring peace to this area?

PS: the last option: "Israel and the Resistance will co-habitate?" means they will live side by side, and continue to fight, just like they did for the past 60 years.

There is only one solution:"Rights"

Outside this basic and just solution, the conflict will stay for as long as it will take.

And ultimately,we will get back our rights. One way or another.

I think a fifth option is the most probable and should be added to the pole... Israel is the strongest country in the region, it's natural political line is hard and agressive by nature... Moderates will never be in charge of Israel...

On our side of the border, the only party that is as strong as Israel (in its own way) and that has any credibility facing it, is Hezbollah... Hezbollah as well, has an intransigeant and hard line... Even though Hezbollah is not in charge of Lebanon, any development in the Israel/Lebanon relations will include their approval, implicit or not.

So I think that the hardliners from both countries will end up acheiving peace... When Lebanon will get wha tis rightfully wants, meaning Chebaa back, a solution for the palestinian refugees, and garantees that israeli violations will stop... When Israel will realize that a balance of power that can't be changed by force is now present...

Israel needs to learn how to consider arabs as human and not two legged beasts.

The only solution as I see it is for one state where Christians, Muslims, and Jews live together in one state called Palestine. We lived in harmony and peace before and we shall do it in the future, biAoun allah. The South African is a good example of how the Palestinian problem should be resolved.

If we look at casulties from resistance side, i say this will never end .. History taught us that resistance always make the change .. Never in History an resistance in the world vanished without leaving marks or major change ..

History taught us, in many events, that no one can be eliminated. Therefore, the realistic solution for the Israeli problem is the two state solution and the compromises. The main bottleneck is the fact that Israel enjoys international endorsement which gives it enough power for not compromising. One day though, this endorsement will go away and the Israelis must compromise (in addition to the fact that they are and will be having many casualties due to their hostilities).

For those who voted elimination, this is certainly an emotional response.
