Icon4 The Investigation, the International Tribunal & the Lebanese Parliamentary Elections - 19th December 2008

I just read (part of) an article in L'Orient le Jour today that revealed something very interesting: the investigation on the killing of RH is almost at its conclusion and the special international tribunal will start this year, a couple of months before the elections.

The author is focusing on the electoral strategic importance of both the report and the tribunal, for both the loyalists and the opposition. The loyalists will want Syria (and hence its allies) to be exposed before the elections, while the opposition will (apparently) want to push back the tribunal so that it doesn't have an impact on the outcome of the elections...

This is serious guys. I don't like to believe in conspiracy theories, but what if things get worse: many people in the world want the loyalists to win. The question is: how far are they willing to go in order to win?

Just imagine if bombs start going off, and people get killed... Sure, it can be Syria, trying to put pressure on Lebanon to stop the tribunal... But how dumb would it be for them to continue on a strategy that proved itself not to be working? In fact, the loyalists (and the US) have a much greater interest in seeing bombs come off at the wrong time...

These "Mehlis era" kind of tricks do not work anymore.

Unless there is a clear official accusation before the tribunal, all these are pure and plain BS.

And what we have today, is just a costly tribunal, with an empty investigative file, and not even one single suspect.

What a joke.

These are journalists bought by Fares Khachan.

Just check the following. One guy on Josh Landis' blog pointed out that Spiegel article is strikingly similar, quasi plagiarized to a Figaro article from 3 years ago. He uses the very same sentences, but while reproducing the same claims from 3 years so, he says that the info has been "uncovered last month"

Check for yourself :

Der Spiegel 2009:

“The pace of the investigation stalled under Mehlis’s Belgian successor, Serge Brammertz. (…)

But now there are signs that the investigation has yielded new and explosive results. (…)

Tribunal chief Bellemare and his fellow judges apparently want to hold back this information, of which they been aware for about a month.” (!)

(my emphasis)

(my emphasis)

Der Spiegel 2009:

“Damascus’s view of the situation could be more mixed. Although the Syrian government is not being declared free of the suspicion of involvement, at least President Assad is no longer in the line of fire.”

This is the funny part. Check the stupid "motive" the article gives :

"This leaves the question of motive unanswered. Many had an interest in Hariri’s death. Why should Hezbollah — or its backers in Iran — be responsible?

Hariri’s growing popularity could have been a thorn in the side of Lebanese Shiite leader Nasrallah. In 2005, the billionaire began to outstrip the revolutionary leader in terms of popularity."

These guys are not afraid of ridicule. It would have been very funny if there was not a risk of igniting a civil war.

In late 2005, an investigation team approved by the United Nations and headed by German prosecutor Detlev Mehlis found, after seven months of research, that Syrian security forces and high-ranking Lebanese officials were in fact responsible for the Hariri murder. Four suspects were arrested. But the smoking gun, the final piece of evidence, was not found. The pace of the investigation stalled under Mehlis's Belgian successor, Serge Brammertz.

Intensive investigations in Lebanon are all pointing to a new conclusion: that it was not the Syrians, but instead special forces of the Lebanese Shiite organization Hezbollah ("Party of God") that planned and executed the diabolical attack.
ha ???

Also calling Hariri secularist is not the most accurate statement.lol
