Default Internet and viral marketing in FPM's campaign - 24th March 2009

In the past couple of years we've seen that the use of internet for electoral purposes was a very strong tool.

Facebook, youtube and other websites look to be amazing tools and were profusely used in huge campaigns such as Obama's and the Canadian elections.

The loyalists will be using every little mean in order to denigrate the FPM, fake the truth, or even use some of FPM's mistakes and give them a bigger importance than they deserve.
Not to forget that the loyalists' money outnumbers that of FPM or the whole opposition and the cheapest tool and even strongest where the FPM already has some advantage in is the internet.

The FPM shall start producing clips, send small msgs and articles by mail, post them on facebook or on youtube.

Trying to show that the LFers are hypocrite through the OTV will only reinforce FPMers' beliefs but NOT that of the independent electorate.

Having clips on the internet denigrating the loyalists' lies or even explaining some of FPM's moves is the strongest way to get to people in every corner of the world, including Lebanon.

(Because if I live in Lebanon and I don't always watch OTV's news I have no reason to suspect that some of the loyalists' billboards might not be true)

Thanks for this initiative... I think this could be extremely powerful...

One additional comment: Think that the audience of this group is not the hard-core FPMers. Content should be somewhat polished, and definitely "shareable"... It can still be extremely powerful (e.g., an image of Nayla + Gea3gea3, without any gory images afterwards, just a small comment for Gebran Tueni on Gea3gea3, etc...)...

VcoderZ.com has started what you're talking about in 2005
it's not an FPM official organization but it perfected the job back then and I'm proud of what we have achieved with the resources we had

I agree, these days internet is the most effective tool for political purposes and FPM is not ignoring that at all, you can see almost everything important hosted by OTV on tayyar.org or on youtube.com through VcoderZ staff.

I guess FPM is perfectly using internet for these upcoming elections officially and unofficially (I mean vcoderz)

I've seen the VcoderZ work and I do commend your efforts, but I wasn't talking only about that.

OTV is biased, as much as people will protest, the truth is out there, it's always out defending the FPM and attacking others. (some say that they're telling the truth, and I'm not talking about truth or not, I'm talking about showing one part of the truth)

So, what we need is to spread new videos through mails (maybe have links that redirect people to youtube or any other video server).

What you guys did is to get all these infos and put them somewhere, BUT we need to be more reactive, as in get people to come and watch these things.

If I want to go into details, I'd propose the following. You don't only need to get people to the website, 2 to 3 times a week, you send a mail with a small message, an FPM achievement and a link to a video where you would answer the others, show their lies and expose YOUR truth without insulting them and without treating them like pigs.

With time you'll get people to come to your website on their own, and you'll still be recruiting more people.

This is a report from 2004, 75% of the US households had internet back then, tell me in Lebanon how many can afford such a luxury...
The Jade again i tell but in a different context, you have to choose your priorities, the average abou fouad el dikkengi has a 26 inch TV at home, not a 26 inch flat screen for his DSL wired PC.

Danny my Friend,
last year the international Communication Federation said in their report that more than 31% of the Lebanese people use the internet on a daily Basis! (it was 8% in 2003)
So i guess this number is extremely huge.. and if u can reach 31% of lebanese by your propaganda u would have done an immense work!

Just compare the numbers:
lets say Newspapers combined sell 100000 issues everyday (exageration)
Not everybody listens to radio channels
there is 31% of the population (950000 lebanese) checks the internet daily!
Then where should be the priority???
regards,

Not to forget that the expat's only way of getting Lebanon's news is through the net.

The problem is that OTV turned out to be so biased that most of its viewers are already acquired to FPM's cause.
So OTV is not the best way to disperse the message, you need viral marketing, you need to use the net.

PS: mods it's viral marketing not virtual marketing in the title of the thread. thx

FPM has developed a handicapped sense of propaganda lately. It seems that whoever is in the authority position that should create, finance, and officially task these media groups and teams has absolutely no perception of how propaganda, be it positive or negative, can flip the results of elections and control public opinion.

what a disappointment… if FPM loses this elections it wont be because of the political program and the political agenda, but because of its poor poor poor poor skills in marketing its own vision.

FPM’s electoral campaign so far reminds me of the abu melhim series on TeleLiban.

I think that the problem with the FPM is that it's taking things too much for granted.

Like in this forum, people think that the voters won't vote for Hariri, LFs or Kataebs because for them these parties are all corrupt and they trust that anyone in Lebanon knows and most importantly CARES about this.

While the Feb 14th people are out there organizing popular meetings, putting billboards all over the country, the FPM is standing still, attacking the others through the trenches; i.e: from OTV and Sawt el Ghad (and of course some people still think that Sawt el Mada is gonna be listened to by any lebanese on the face of the earth).
