His job is to work for the interest of the people and their welfare not adhere to their whims and moods. What you are rooting for is populism.
A true statesman would do what the people need not want.

FPM didn't lose the majority since they never had it, FPM won five more seats so your argument fails .

but I do agree with you about independents not voting for FPM, I don't call them independents though but rather right-wing conservative undecided Lebanese voters, most of them voted against FPM in my opinion .

No Roch, the purpose of a democracy is to offer the people a political choice. Following only the people's will leads to populism and eventually, destroys the democracy.

We're offering an alternative the people are free to chose or not. And we're the only political party to do so in this country and we proved it, notably in Jezzine. While kataëb and LF were only following and bowing to Hariri for example, and they proved it in Zahle, Ashrafieh, Beirut II etc.

Criticize FPM when it's due in order for us to try to have a decent debate. And I would love to have a decent debate one day with loyalists, far from the cheap shots, bashing etc.

Heres my problem.

Its not enough to diagnose those issues and faults like money and power and fraud.

That shouldve been done and delt with before the elections.

Why is FPM telling me this now? What am i supposed to do about it now?

Why didnt FPM do anything? Where is the outrage, the actions?

We get enough whining and speculation about causes from everyone else, the eladership is supposed to act.

أضيف إلى هذه الأخطاء التكتيكيّة، خطاب سماحة السيّد عشيّة الإنتخابات كان أيضاً له من ترديّات سلبيّة على الإنتخابات ككل. فليس الجميع لديه قدرة الإستيعاب وفهم ما يقوله السيد أو حتى العماد عون لذا ما يقولونه يرتدّ عليهم أحياناً

وأيضاً نصل إلى خطىء قاموا به أنصار التيار الوطني الحرّ في إنجاح وصول سامي الجميل إلى المجلس النيابيّ. فعدم تقبلهم للمرشح غسان الأشقر لا يمعنهم من شطب إسمه ولكن وضع إسم من اللائحة الأخرى فهذا عمل مشين بحدّ ذاته

If it makes you feel better to repeat that then good for you... Given your long stated positions you hardly qualify for independent... You hate GMA's guts, and are happy to ruin Lebanon if it means making GMA lose...


To go back to Roch10452's comment, it is a very tricky balance. Either extreme can be damageable (think of G Bush, think of Chirac, think of any "dictator"). Ultimately, it is a question of horizon and accountability. I would argue a leader should not necessarily do the population's short term "wishes"... As long as she / he can demonstrate "success" in achieving their "long term" wishes before the next round of elections...
However, I would like to thank you to try to frame your post in a "debatable" way to engage dialogue

لا شك أن المجتمع المسيحي مصاب بالإرباك بسبب وجوده في مرحلة تاريخية تحمل تحوّلات كبرى في السياسة الدولية، تحتّم عليه فكّ الارتباط مع غربٍ تقليدي سبق وارتبط به إنسانياً وثقافياً، وشكّل له حمايةً في لحظات تاريخية صعبة وخطرة في القرون الماضية، ولكنه خذله مراراً في أيامنا هذه، وتحديداً منذ العام 1948. وبالتالي على المجتمع المسيحي الآن أن يتأقلم مع المعطيات الجديدة، ويكون أكثر تفاعلاً مع محيطه الداخلي، فيتناغم معه ويشاركه السّراء والضراء، ويشجّع على ثقافة الانفتاح والتفاهم والبناء، بدل الانغلاق والخوف والتصادم، خصوصاً وأن مجتمعنا حريص على حرية المعتقدات بجميع أشكالها السياسية والدينية، ويحترم حق الاختلاف

إن علاقة الموارنة مع الغرب تعود إلى ما قبل قيام الكيان اللبناني الحديث وقد تطورت هذه العلاقة على مدى قرون من الزمن قاربت التسعة، ما سمح لهم بمواكبة عصر النهضة في أوروبا انطلاقاً من ايطاليا في القرن السادس عشر، ومتابعةً من فرنسا في القرن السابع عشر. وقد ساعدتهم هذه العلاقة الثقافية على القيام بأدوار طليعية في النهضة العربية في القرن التاسع عشر
لقد اتخذت هذه العلاقة أشكالاً مختلفة، وتكرست بعد المجازر التي ارتُكبت على الموارنة في قائممقامية الدروز، ببروتوكول 1861، الذي أعطى الدول الأوروبية دوراً في حماية الأقليات المسيحية والدروز، وأبقى الشيعة والسنّة في عهدة الدولة العثمانية
هذا التاريخ لا يزال في العقل اللاواعي لبعض المسيحيين، يشدّه الى ماضٍ لم تعد مقوماته متوفرة، ويمنع عليه خيارات جديدة مع محيطه الطبيعي الذي تمايز عنه لفترات زمنية طويلة. هذا البعض كانت خياراته السياسية الاخيرة متناقضة أحياناً، ومشلولة أحياناً أخرى؛ يتصالح مع سوريا ويخاصمها في آن، يريد أن يعيش محايداً على حدود إسرائيل ولا يملك القوة لحماية حياده، لا من الداخل ولا من الخارج...

إن ما يقوم به الغرب اليوم هو منع التفاهم بين مكونات المجتمع اللبناني، وضرب الوحدة الوطنية كي يسهل عليه تمرير الحل الإسرائيلي. فبلد تقوم وحدته الوطنية على التكامل بين المقاومة والشعب والجيش ضمن دولة مستقلة يصعب اختراقه، أو جعله عند فرض الحلول جائزة ترضية برسم المتضررين من الحل الشامل
وافتعال الأزمات في تأليف الحكومة هو أفضل السبل لضرب الوحدة الوطنية والحؤول دون تفاهم عميق بين مختلف القوى الوطنية لمواجهة الأزمات المرتقبة وتصور حلول لها، فمن هذا المنطلق يعمل قسم من الأكثرية يريد إحباط الرئيس المكلّف من خلال فرض شروط مقيدة تمنعه من تحقيق الوحدة الوطنية وتدفعه لتغليب الاستئثار بالسلطة، وهذا ما يعزز الانشقاق والتشرذم
إن التمثيل النسبي في الحكومة يحقق قاعدة عريضة للحكم تغطي مختلف شرائح المجتمع اللبناني، وينعكس هذا التمثيل قوة للحكومة، وبقدر ما تكون هذه الحكومة قوية يقوى رئيسها وبقدر ما تكون ضعيفة يضعف هو ويلجأ مضطراً إلى مراكز قوى غريبة تضعفه أكثر، لأن عليه أن يدفع ضريبة الدعم وذلك على حساب استقرار مجتمعه

فالمعترضون اليوم على التمثيل النسبي، بالإضافة إلى طمعهم المفرط بالإستئثار بالسلطة يقعون في فخ القوى التي تعمل لتهديم الكيان اللبناني وتصادمه، فهم يعملون بذلك على إضعافه وإخضاعه بغية قبول ما يعرض عليه من حلول؛ فالقوى الخارجية التي تطل برأسها عند كل استحقاقٍ سياسي، هي مع من يصغي إليها من اللبنانيين، من يعرقل الحلول لضبط إيقاع السياسة اللبنانية على قياس مصالحها وليس على معايير المصلحة اللبنانية

تجاه الأخطار المحدقة بلبنان، يجب أن يعمل المجتمع المسيحي على تحديد سلوكه تجاه هذه الأخطار وأن يعمل فعلياً لدرئها وليس للهروب منها والتفتيش عن هوية أخرى، من هذا الخيار الصريح والواضح يصبح المحرك الأول الذي يعيد الإستقرار إلى المجتمع اللبناني من خلال توجيه العدائية إلى حيث يجب أن تكون وليس إلى اللبناني الآخر. إن الوقت ليس متأخراً إلا لا سمح الله أن يكون البعض قد ذهب بعيداً في تورطه ولا يستطيع العودة إلى الوطن بعد هذه الغربة. فهل لدينا جرأة الحر المستقل كي نقرر اللقاء بأنفسنا ؟
