Change and Reform bloc Leader MP Michel Aoun holds a press conference after the bloc’s weekly meeting
September 8, 2008
- I formally request that the army tell us who directed the military helicopter to the place where the shooting occurred. They must tell us who gave this order and what was the mission.
- We want to know what are the guiding principles of the flights over these regions. Accordingly, we can tell the mother of Capt. Hanna why her son was killed and who killed him.
- We note again our disappointment that L’Orient Le Jour was not taken to court, even though it said Captain Samir Hanna was murdered before the investigation was complete.
- We were surprised today by a law issued in 2004, which says that the balance of the Communication Ministry must be included in the general finance of the state. This will not happen. The minister does not have financial independence anymore. I warn that I will refuse to let this happen when we are responsible of the ministry. I present the issue to the public opinion. Things should not be dealt with in silence anymore.
- Why do they want to apply this rule today?
- There are laws that demand reform.
- Today, we signed the draft law to separate the ministry from membership in the parliament.
- Concerning the issue of displaced persons in the Chouf caza, some people have not received compensations yet.
- We remind the people that the majority’s earlier performance and continuing behavior in power is bad.
- We hope that the Tripoli conflict will be simply resolved. We encourage reconciliation since political disputes must not lead to confrontations.
- The Resistance’s weapons were present in the South only. After 2006 July War, we witnessed the formation of new militias and rearmament and reorganization of old militias and we said this in our letter to UN general secretary. The location of the Resistance’s weapons in the South are known.
- During three years of consecutive crimes, I have never accused anyone, because I know that loud voices might be used to cover some crimes or parties.
- Since 1992, there has been stability. Positive things are decreasing, and negative ones increasing.
- We are in a battle against money spent for political aims.
- Siniora’s finance policy has led the country to poverty.
