Aoun is proving himself instrumental in bridging the gap between the what are now termed pro-Syrian and anti-Syrian parties. Such a quality is necessary especially for the coming president who, theoretically, would be more favorable if in good terms with either group. If such a meeting does actually happen, it will be a great step towards closing in on the distance among all. Cheers.

It's strange why most of us are suddenly in a defensive stance regarding this issue. This is a step forward for FPM of course, but even more so for Lebanon. That's something to make us [Lebanese] positive and encouraged, not defensive and disappointed!

It is called Hate and Jealousy. They cannot stand it when one party get close or make peace with another as if they are the only ones that can make decisions.

I am happy and encourage these types of meetings and talks between Jumblat and GMA. The same way talks started with Kataeb.

The people want Aoun to be President. Soon all people will accept includin the extremely ignorant. Now as for him meeting with Junblatt, Aoun has stated numerous times that he talks to Junblatt on th e phone and Aoun accepts the party in his residence. This meeting should not be a shock and should be considered another step towards full national dialogue.

We've already noticed lately the positive movements from Hezb Al Takadoumi El Ishtiraki representatives towards Al Tayyar, which is a very positive step for future democratic discussions between lebanese parties & General Michel Aoun.

GMA has been calling for a meeting for the heads of all parties since before January 2005, what is new now that he is meeting with Jumblat?

Anyway, Jumblat is coming to this meeting with a full understanding of GMA position (since GMA has always been transparent), and he knows that GMA would never change what he stands for, so we know very well which way the meeting will go .

I hope it works, and congratulations General for working on bridging the gap between all the Lebanese factions.

Next it will be LF and Future turn .

I remember well after the elections in the North were over, Jomblat said on Kalam el Nas in the same evening "Today, we have won a battle against Aoun and we must continue... we must continue until we win the war against this big lie called Michel Aoun and defeat him totally".
Whoever thinks that Jomblat changed is wrong. He still hates GMA.
The only difference is that Aoun was never "defeated" according to Jomblat's lexicon, not so far, and in Jomblat's own calculations, he needs to protect his territory (Chouf and Aley) and his backyard (Baabda) and he is foreseeing what will happen after the presidential elections and possibly just possibly after the dialog and the presidential elections some early legislative elections under a better election law (worse for Jomblat) and GMA will cause Jomblat nightmares if he is not in good terms with him. Then, after all of this is over, Jomblat will start caring again about how to defeat the so-far-undefeatable GMA.

Every dialogue initiative between too lebanese parties and especially, two lebanese leaders, is to be taken from the positive view. It is not necessary for them to be allies in order to sit around and talk about national issues.

As for those who are saying Aoun is running behind Jumbi to get the presidency, I say: have you ever thought that it is jumblat who is running behind Aoun to get rid of the president?? We will now later... the two issues may as well be not discussed.

Let us not run into speculation, and keep our critical opinions to the joint-conference that will follow the meeting.
