"If the entire Middle East was burned … Lebanon will not burn from the fires of the civil war … The secret of the country's strength and one of the main factors of immunity is its confessional diversity which gives it an added value in the whole region," Aoun told As Safir daily in an interview published Wednesday.
Aoun also said the system is unbalanced.
Asked if balance could be reached through the Taef accord or if the country is in need of another Taef, Aoun said: "Why do we call it Taef? Let us call it Beirut 1. Now the prime minister is the absolute ruler through his majority in parliament."
The MP also called for proportional representation in cabinet and slammed the current electoral law that gave the prime minister predominance.
naharnet.
Wasn't GMA who wanted the current electoral law? |
No, the opposition proposed seven possible electoral laws but the loyalists refused all of them and at the end the opposition couldn't concede more so this law was admitted.
However Aoun finds that this law is a victory since it is a lot better then Ghazi and allowed christians to go from being able to elect only 23 deputees out of 128, to being able to elect 47 out of 128.
If it weren't for Aoun, we would still be with Ghazi Kenaan law.
(Many believed FPM, including FPMers, was crazy to think that it can change the law because Saudi would never permit it and look what happened :D, same thing for possibility of Syrian withdrawal, and same thing now with mou7erabit el fassed and you know what wil happen
