Thank you!! | True..I have also a friend who came last month almost same timing as me from canada and she told me it is really crazy in lebanon..... we were discussing prices in australia and canada and found out that to live in lebanon you need a much higher income than we even have abroad though it is easier for us cause we get paid weekly whereas there they have to wait till end of the month till they get paid, so i wonder how people can live eat drink in lebanon | | | | | Registered Member

I know also engineers who barely make it.
Those have also to pay for their children's schools, have to pay for every single doctor visit around 40-50$, have to pay for every single medicine they buy, dentist visits never covered... Do you know how much a family of 2 children pays per month on these things, we also pay taxes on our income, and I wonder why the heck do we do that, what do we get in return.
I know in the US and Canada taxes are high, but they go up as the salary goes up no? So basically the ones who do not make a lot of money do not pay a lot of taxes (% wise), they get a lot of benefits, you take a loan for example for a house and your taxes go down, you pay for some goodwill association and it is deducted from your tax...
I was comparing my expenses with those of a friend who lives in one of the nice areas in California, well she was shocked to know that we have almost the same expenses, taking into consideration the insurances (car, health), apartment loan, kids schools, everyday's expenses like supermarket, mazout, fuel... we ended up having almost the same expense, when she makes more than 5 times more than I do. | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

You are supposed to get roads and water etc for your taxes and some you get some you don't, but by the way you don't pay as many taxes as in Canada. Quote:

The poster was comparing with Canada and he is from Montreal so I answered him for that part of the world, i didn't compare to California. | | | | | Registered Member

10+ years engineer get maximum 5000 $ per month ( Being a general manager of a whole department in a huge company) ( 60 000/year) in Lebanon whereas in Canada you begin with 50 000/year with 2 years of experience...
As for the taxes I agree with you, they are high in Canada, but everything is relative. Take into consideration the money you pay for insurance in Lebanon + the money you pay for your kids university + the money you need when you stop working after 60 + the money you need whenever you stop working in case you don't have work etc etc you'll find out that in Canada you're much more comfortable despite all the taxes you pay...

1) I'm comparing a general manager to a newly graduate engineer
2) 50 000 in Quebec will leave you: 37 311 $ ( aka 3109$/month)
3) same work, same condition in Lebanon : 850$/month ( got this salary when I worked in the 2nd biggest engineering company in the middle east)
4) In Lebanon you pay 10 000$/year minimum for university--- In Quebec maximum 3000$
5) In lebanon you need money when you pass 60 in order to live and not be on the streets--- In Quebec the government pays you
6) In Lebanon, you have no income whenever you are put out of your work--- In Quebec the government pays you
7) In Lebanon you have to pay for your insurance--- In Quebec it's free
8) In Lebanon you pay double electricity and water bills compared to Quebec
9) In Lebanon you pay 12 times more for your cell phone bills compared to Quebec
10) See all of the above again and you'll understand what I mean...

| Not sure where you got that number from maybe you are right but i know 80,000 will net you $3,600 a month, maybe you are right, but the more you go higher the less you retain. That's why i was talking about 10 years experience, not new graduate, in 10 years in Quebec you don't get the equivalent of $5000 net, that's more than 120,000 a year. Quote:

6) In Lebanon, you have no income whenever you are put out of your work--- In Quebec the government pays you | The order of Engineers of Lebanon pays you too, and they are almost the same. You need RRSP to live after 60 in Canada because what they give is as much as the order of engineers in Beirut gives you ya3ni shi 500$ Quote:
