Their meeting is about survival, i hope Frangieh will not bow too much for his survival. |
LF is a minority party, even among the Christians (I won’t even go into how Muslims feel about it); it can never hope to be anything other than a provisional one. It needs animosity between Christians and Muslims, Muslims and Muslims, and Christians and Christians to survive. Geagea’s dream of being the next president after Suleiman is just that: a dream. If you’re looking for future Lebanese Chrstian leaders outside FPM, which is very difficult when you see the calibre of those in the FPM, then look no further than Franjiyeh. Kataeb and LF are the past: Hariri is their lifeline (and as you know alliances in Lebanese politics shift as easy as the sands in his native Saudi Arabia); 2009 election results will tell you that without much analysis.
The whole point of the meeting(s) is because the Christians of M14 are trying to isolate the FPM. It is for the same reason that George Adwan is looking for LF – Marada reconciliation. Also the same reason that Jumblatt and then Hariri visited Hassan Nassrallah. The idea is for all Christian groupings, bar Michel Aoun, to reconcile, particularly under the wing of the Patriarch, and then claim to the Lebanese Christian and Muslim population that the government can now legitimately ignore the FPM.
