Now don't get me wrong, I do prefer if there were elections, but having studied political science and having followed a course on theories surrounding political parties, etc., I can assure you that elections are not essential... And in this Lebanese context, the only thing that will change, is that journalists and other parties will stop asking about FPM's internal elections and they will move on to another issue (just like they moved from Syria's interference to HA's arms to Bassil's ministry)! |
Party elections are essential in the sense that the people making the decisions will have to think about the fall back of every call they make.
Now if one of they screws up, what happens ?
Can you kick him out ? Who can do that other than Michel Aoun ?
It took him 4 years to realize that Tony Nasrallah is really really bad at the communications department. And that's a key department in any party or movement.
How long would it take the guy to realize that there are other bad apples in the party ?
If you had a structure with elections, a guy would have to do anything withing his power to stay in that position, he would have to surpass himself.
Unfortunately now people are at their positions, strolling around with bodyguards, knowing that Michel Aoun doesn't have time for everything and that if they ***** up there won't be anyone ta yi7asseboun.
So my friend(s) (I added the S especially for the ones who thanked him), elections are extremely important because you'll have to go back to your electors and explain to them why you did this or that.
Then they'll judge if what you did was a good or bad thing and they'll decide if you're fit enough to come back to your position or even elect you to another position.
