I don't support FPM presenting candidate(s) in Beirut III for the following reasons:

1. Lost battle.
2. Therefore waste of resources.
3. Indirectly you will help Hariri since the % of voters will increase dramatically just to crush Aoun.
4. Humiliating lost.
5. The final and most important : Like it or not , FPM is a christian party ... else it wouldn't just talk about christians and about its only representation on the christian level , why say you represent 70% of christians and not like 30% of lebanese?

Nasser, thanks for your post and welcome on the forum.

I disagree with you:

1. That's not a valid reason: why participate in Aley, Western Bekaa, Becharre and Chouf then? Why does March 14 participate in Zgharta, Jbeil, Keserwen and Baabda? It's about democracy. We need to know our supporters of these regions that we still care about them. We also need to tell people from other communities, we care about you too! If we get 30% of the votes (along with our allies), then we can say that we also represent a lot of Muslims!

2. True, but then, the resources are allocated by the party or by interested candidates. They will decide on that, not us. As for the FPM-sponsorship of these candidates, I think it is worth it financially, since, with a win, we can get access to more resources!

3. It doesn't make a difference. Last elections, we won with 70% of the Christian votes in the regions where we participated. Did it matter? No, so why would it matter if Hariri won with 70% in Beirut III? It won't! If he won with one vote or with a million, he still gets the same number of MPs...

4. It's not humiliating to lose somewhere we didn't plan on winning. It's like saying that in Football, Lebanon should not play against Brazil, because it is humiliating, it is a waste of resources, and we will lose by a great difference!

5. This is exactly why FPM should participate!

1. My opinion is that no need to run in a district where you are sure about your losing.

2. "I think it is worth it financially, since, with a win, we can get access to more resources!" the way things show up atm , a win is impossible unfortunely ( unfortunately for not seeing a political battle , since its the way for candidates presenting better work and programs and following them ) , but with the secterian problems there is no chance in presenting useful programs .

3. Yes , it did matter that FPM won with over 70% of christian votes .. that what made up Aoun the only leader for christians until further notice.

4. You can't enter a battle aiming to lose? you have to set a goal for yourself .. be it to get 30% of votes - that's good. but unfortunately 'FPM' can't get that in Beirut III , notice I am saying FPM not opposition , coz I still believe FPM differs from other opposition parties.

5. while speaking all the time about christians only , presenting a candidate in a Sunni majority district doesn't mean approaching Sunnis since the goal is to take a win over an opponent not getting a Sunni supporters base , if you want to represent Sunnis , add them to your program and speak with them during all your MP time as national leader , and not Christian leader and christian defender.

PS: thanks for the welcome mate.

You know what can actually happen? If FMers come in a low turnout due to their overcomfidence in winning the elections, maybe one or two of the candidates will possibly win, if we mobilize enough people!!
Take the Beyrouth by-elections! if the Shiites hadn't boycotted the elections and came the last 2 hours, we would have a had a very big chance of winning the elections!
