It'd be a good way to test its strength in an important community in the capital if it can find someone with the necessary flare to represent it.

As Shadow said, we have to test our popularity in this area and among the Sunnis in Beirut...

If in a future election, Beirut is united under a proportional law, then we need to know what our chances are of winning and getting seats!

Besides, if we're really secular, we should also present Shiite candidates in South, Druze candidates in Chouf, and a Alawi candidate in North!

Since FPM is a secular party then he should present a closed 5 sunni and 1 druze list to test its popularity in these two communities.

Even though FPM will most probably loose in this electoral district, I certainly am in favor of presenting FPM candidates mainly for the Sunni seats to show that:
  • FPM is not exclusively a Christian party.
  • The current crisis is a political crisis, and it's not Christians VS Sunnis
  • FPM is against Hariri policies and not against Sunnis
  • By having Sunni VS Sunni candidates, voters will be more responsive to FPM's message and perspective.
  • To be able to explain for instance the loopholes in Taef without inferring that whoever criticize Taef is against the Sunni community.

On the other hand... When FM opened "mestawsif" in Aachkout, Sawt el Ghad played on the Christian emotions, wondering what does FM have to do in Keserwen... Would FPM be able to have a coherent speech or would candidates in Beirut 3 be a liability on FPM who's mainly focusing on the Christian areas to secure the biggest number of seats for the coming elections?

according to elnashra.com:

the electors are distributed as follows:

Sunni 158000
Druze 4800

Shiaa 33000

Maronites 5500
Orthodox 16000
Catholic 5000
Arm Orth 5000
Arm Cath 1200
Evangelists 2500
Minorities 8000

So if we can present candidates that are strong enough on the sunni level,
we can have a slight chance of getting half as much votes as FM. which is good afterall.

Najah Wakim should definitely be on the list in beirut 3.
last time he got alone 15000 votes.

True! Najah Wakim is very strong in Beirut, and he was ALL ALONE: FPM boycott, most 14 7zar candidates ran unopposed and it all happened after the assassination of Hariri...

Even if we get 20% of the votes, we need to prepare the emergence of the Sunni-opposition movement! In 4 years, when we'll hopefully have achieved a lot, we should run candidates in order to win in Hariri-land!

I think you should present candidates for Sunnis and Shiaa seats all over the country, to test your strength.
