The Opposition parties' supporters don't like to be put all in the same baskets. Nobody likes to be held accountable for positions taken by supporters of other parties in the Opposition. Nobody wants people to rely on news published elsewhere than on the official website and news outlets.
There used to be several unofficial pro-Michel Aoun websites. They used to post news or comments that were not approved of by the official FPM, and sometimes, these news were even denied by the official FPM.
Let's imagine someone opens a blog or a website, praising Hassan Nasrallah and Hezbollah, but at the same time, take liberties in publishing unofficial news. Would you rely on it to know what Hezbollah thinks?
And especially when it comes to the Future Movement, we would all know better how to act with this party if we get to know the different kind of supporters it has. Same for all other parties.
Among the FM supporters you have:
- The liberal sunni bourgeoisie and businessmen;
- The western-like youth that is put forward in the international media;
- The middle- and low-class people in the different Sunni villages, who rely on the FM's support and aid;
- The sectarian Sunnis - not necessarily fundamentalists, but who think in terms of "who is the strongest person in my sect for me to follow";
- The Sunni fundamentalists who think that Shiites are going to slaughter them;
- The people who support Rafic Hariri's economic and financial policies as well as his vision for Lebanon's role.
Putting all of them into one basket leads to extremely wrong conclusions. It's at best naive, at worst dishonest...
And it would be great if we try to "dissect" all other parties into their different constituents for us to understand them better, and make more nuanced and precise comments.
