Dr. Pierre Sarkis of LAU pays the price of Freedom!

This is the title of the article published by Dr. Pierre Sarkis in "The LAU Tribune", LAU's magazine, in the "Politics" page.

Since it appeared, LAU fell under tremendous pressure to end the services of Dr. Sarkis.

And guess what?

Dr. Sarkis paid the price!

After 17 years of teaching in both campuses (Beirut and Byblos), an article was enough to stop renewing his contracts with LAU for the next semesters.


Congratulations LAU!!

I had the PRIVELAGE of taking classes with Dr. Sarkis at LAU.

I was always surprised and at admiration of how this man would speak out at a time when we were under syrian and hariri tutelage.

He would always say, and i quote, "I'll say what I need to say. They all know where I live. They can come and get me if they want to."

He taught for years there as CB has stated and was one of the few highlights for me in what was a very dark university. That was nearly a decade ago.

I never met a man so outspoken IN A PALCE WHERE HE SHOULD BE OUTSPOKEN: and institution of education.

Unfortunately Hariri and co.'s claws have been there since my time.

SHAME on this pathetic university for removing this man!

maybe publish it on tayyyar.org , that's the least we can do

This hypocrite has conveniently forgotten that Mr. Sarkis was guiding us to be BRAVE and RESOLUTE ...DURING the syrian occupation.

Mr. Sarkis's positions have been consistent throughout his teaching days. It is that blogger and those he support's positions that have flip-flopped.

FPM doesn't want to get itself into this issue and I understand the reasons. I don't want to open this issue right now.

A lot can be done but it seems new generations of students are watching Micho Mouawad a lot. The spirits we used to spread and feel surrounded by exist no more.

Students can do stuff that hurt, alumni can do stuff that hurt, other teachers (chi bi charrif) can do stuff that hurt...

But at such times, they all run away!

Our FPM used to raise Free Rebel Spirits who knew how to make responsible and sensible leaders out of themselves in whatever society they happened to be in.

But that was "our" FPM...

Note: It's not the job of the party to get itself busy with such an individual issue... But to imagine that nobody out of this school could feel the rush to defend this case? that seems hard to swallow...
