Default Do you follow General Aoun or the FPM principles? - 27th October 2004

There is no doubt that General Aoun is great man, a patriotic man, one who has fought for his country with all he's got. He's also a man with vision, he saw a future for Lebanon and he has worked very hard and still working so that Lebanon meets its potential. I respect the man, we all should, but i believe that we should all stick to the principles he suggested, and work as hard as we can to accomplish them, because they are our principles, but im afraid that many are following him as a man, as a leader, its the same, my point is that we should forget that there are leaders and set our minds to LEADING IDEAS...
Don't you think?

Ya i completely agree, but, it is a fact, and this happens worldwide, strong leaders are needed to give ppl hope and enthusiasim, and to make them feel strong, rather than weak.

Ya i agree as well with what you are saying, that is why many ppl do wave Lebanese flags around. I think the best thing would be is for ppl during demonstrations to wrap themselves in the Lebanese flag.

novusordo....

This is what we, or I as personnal political activity have been trying to explain to everyone around me in university.

It's not about the man, it's about the principles...
It's what we can do to make those principles realised, and not get a man get back to Lebanon nor get him out of jail etc...

There was this group of ppl I know who wanted to launch a new group of students, with the same principles of any real opposition (i.e. FPM) but without the "leader"... I talked and talked and talked....

They still thinked that anyone who played a role in the war is bad for the future... which is kind of true...

BUT we also can't forget the fact that we can't let go of everything... We DO have a past, and we should deal with it and surpass it! U can't say that u forgot everything about leaders or etc... wallaw, ma we still have people who used to fight with certain fronts, those people who are deadly attached to any idea he fought for with his life, u can't just tell them to drop everything!

When someone says FPM, the other says Aoun, it's wrong intila2an enno we are the ones who are trying to work on the ground, and not for this certain person, or for a certain community, but for all Lebanon.

So, I follow the FPM principles firmly, and always work for convincing people that there should be principles to follow, and not one person.

liberte_toujours is absolutely correct in his analysis, and I am glad to see that in the last couple of years, people no longer refer to "el tayyar el Aouneh" but rather "el tayyar el wataneh el 7urr".

Every country during a revolutionary/war period has a leader, the Americans have George Washington, the French have De Gaul, you have Churchill etc... So there is nothing wrong when some FPM supporters revere General Aoun, especially those who were old enough to remember the events of 1989 - 1990.

And from what I see, most supporters of FPM do so not because of Aoun but because of what Aoun taught us and what Aoun symbolizes in our struggle against tyranny and most importantly, they support FPM because they want a free and sovereign Lebanon.

i agree, we have a past that we should never forget. But im not a person who is fond of GA, i do respect him, but i do not necessarely like him. And believe me i get very pissed when some calls the FPM "el tayyar el 3awni".
GA began the journey, but we, the free young people of lebanon are assuring the continuity, so, even though the man did a great job, and even though he had a chance to do more work for his country, i think we're all equal in this manner, we're all fighting the fight, and im not fighting the fight for no man, im fighting for Lebanon, and the people of lebanon, everyone, including him, you, and me!

As for me I for sure foolow the principles of Aoun and not him personally, btw, I doubt that if some day Aoun says Bachar al assad is an ally to lebanese community and the Syrian presence in Lebanonis necessary, I doubt that someone will still look at Aoun. As for me, I was so young to remember what happened in the 89-90 period, so everyone tries to talk to me about this period and that GMA said to hafez assad: I'd be honoured if I was a soldier in your army, and bi siro ylaff2o khbar, and when I argue they tell me U're so young to remember these things... So I tell them, perhaps GMA is someone so silly, so dirty, so liar... But as for me, I'm not following him as a person, I'm following the person I beleive he is, so I'm following his principles.
And as for waving pictures, well what's wrong with promoting and cheering the last man standing? I still beleive that he is the only living politician that worked for a Lebanon I dream of, so why don't I have to cheer him? It's like tiffosi wich are ferrari's (italy) cheerers are holding schumacher(german) pics.

I love it when people cannot defeat the idea turn around and try to win something. What some people don't know or maybe don't get is it was GMA that insisted on naming it Attayyar Alwatani Alhurr and not Altayar Al-Aouni. But to come now and start saying that we should not be identified with the name of the person that laid the principles that we all believed in without him can anyone think of the next leader in Lebanon that you would follow :?: :?: .
Following a leader is not a bad thing especially when you believe in what the leader stands for. I believe till today there is people all over the world including in Lebanon that call themselves "Ghandies".
Like Tony said if the General's principles are different than the FPM than we continue without him. One thing is for sure, we never had to test this because GMA has been solid with a clear vision, Like him or not, he has the same mawe3f since we knew him and of him. I know people from other Ah7zab where they had to change their position and defend a new position every time their leader change. Can you imagine if Jumblatt was the leader you're following kan dawakhna abel ma yedwekh ghayrna.
I salute El-General and I'm very proud to have him as my leader.
