Apart from the fact that they are both inmates in one asylum they do share lots of points the most notable of which are:

I reckon they are both good people with evil intentions.

They share allegiance to foreign countries; One take orders from KSA and the other from Iran and the christians on both sides are like the dancing clowns in a never ending circus.

They both share the same vision of destroying the country one with supporting extremist religious groups and the other for wanting a never ending war with Israel. And the christians between them are left to put on the best spin on what is bleeding obvious.

They are both in command of a large herd ready to hit the streets at call even when they run them both all the way to the precipice.

They both have exclusive vision of the country yet one is slightly less evil than the other.

They both monopolise the truth as they see it and all the rest to them is lies and damne*d lies.

That is what they commonly share and the rest is crumbs for their supporters to chew on.

Pity the nation indeed!

After putting aside all the poetry above, there is one truth to what is happening in Lebanon:

The Palestinians need a place to live other than Israel. The Saudi/Sunni – Israeli – US – Harriri – Jumblatt alliance was built on this common goal and will stop at nothing to achieve it. Israel will get what it desperately needs. Saudi will take over one of the most beautiful countries in the world and turn into one of its satellite nations only to ad Syria to it later when the time is right. The US will have both of its very close allies happy and satisfied and will get rid of trouble making small minority that keeps causing trouble in the region as it fights for its survival, the Christians.

Syria – Iran – HA alliance is fighting back as they would be at the losing end of such a deal and no viable counter offer had been given.

The Christians

Geagea – Thinks he can go along alliance 1 and spin-off a Christian mini-kingdom for himself, for him to announce himself as mini-king over it, and excommunicate anyone who refuses to offer total subordination. Therefore the occasional elimination of fellow Christian leaders becomes a ‘wajeb watani’ and as the need presents itself, and as a lesson to others not to stand in the way. Currently, he is hoping to have everyone else to chew at Tayyar’s existence hopefully to render it small enough to swallow with the help of few street thugs.

The Patriarch – An evil man by nature and Hell is more likely to be his final destination, willfully and vengefully handing over anything the Christians consider of value just to make sure Aoun as a person would not get any ‘glory’ from it, justifying his abnormal and destructive behavior by allying himself with Geagea’s dream. But for him, it really is nothing more than a behavior simply based on one of those humans with very evil nature fit for a Devil helper than a man of God.

All the other Christian Loyalists – Simple minded feudal lords with extreme short-sightedness. Their whole objective in life is to find a buyer willing to hire their services in order to make more money, appoint themselves at more miniature kingdoms than that in Geagea’s dream so they can date the neighbors daughter after impressing her with the new car they are driving, that they bought with the money made by prostituting themselves to any paying ‘John’ out there.

Aoun – Twice in history as the most supported leader among the Christians with a significant following in the rest of Lebanon, twice fought by all the above, for the above reasons. Aoun has very limited options and his only saving grace along with the Christians was the miraculous falling out that took place between the Sunnis and the Chias the region, the ensuing clash of the two regional alliances above, and the Saudi intentions to take over the whole region and converting into a Sunni nation that posed a grave threat to the Alawi regime in Syria. As a result, the Palestinians’ settlement suddenly become as dangerous to the Chiite population as it was to the Christians before them and to the Syrian regime. Thus the need for their alliance presented itself.

Where do you see room for common grounds above?

There are no common grounds. Lebanon should be allowed to devolve and degenerate so that it can reach a point where it can have a much more primitive but rather stable existence that allows it to hopefully evolve again and find its eventual path...

Allowing the country to devolve and degenerate can be hazardous and may create strife and wars, but it can also be a better organized degeneration, since hopefully we are better at it after decades of internal strife. A form of federalism, can be one of the appropriate degeneration paths that might save the country from further internal strife. Once that sub-par and primitive form of stability is reached, the several federal entities can begin their independent evolution paths first, and thereafter hopefully reach a point where they feel the need to search for ways to combine those paths under a better formula for a better future...
