You guys have to check the priory, the best nightclub in Aberdeen, Scotland.
The place was a huge church, now it is a very nice looking nightclub with not much inside changed.
Much to the dismay of the clergy, there are many churches who were turned nightclubs in Scotland, in Montreal they are turned into Condos. When people stop contributing to churches, they have to sell into something else, nobody can maintain a piece of old building indefinitely for no reason, so i suggest if you want to keep it, give your money to the clergy. Go and give many to the Batrak...
Or just wake up this is the normal course of events, when empires die, they leave ruins behind them.

Anyone even contemplating the sale of a church or any other place of worship should be banished from the church for life.

Whether it be the Clergymen facilitating the deal or the businessman auchestrating the deal.

You achrafieh 'heart of the christian stronghold' folk should take the christians of the Dunnieh as an example and embrace it.

It was heart lifting to see the new church in the korayn, the renovating of the Sfeiri church, the expansion of the Haql el azimeh church, the new church in sartouka, the renovation of the church in 7awara the reconstruction of Saidet 3assoun and the list goes on. And these are a few small villages of fruit pickers and goat hearders.

If the Catholic church and the people of the achrafieh cannot afford to keep the church open, i'm sure the farmers of the dunnieh could put together a fund raiser to that regard.

3ayb 3lakoun.

So, FPM supperters are clearly divided about this issue. Interesting.

Let us first understand a simple fact. The clergy in Lebanon, whether Christian or Muslim, Catholic, Orthodox, Sunnite, or Shiite, is by far one of the wealthiest organizations in the country. They have more money than anyone can imagine. So it is suspicious to see them selling this old church for just money.

Achrafieh has its cultural charm, something which a Saudi business man would never understand in his life time. Adding a new mall, even if it's on an empty piece of land, is an urban planning disaster.

Although I would be the first to party with glee at the destruction of religion, I doubt this is the case here. This potential transaction smells fishy.

it was saved already... by mutual discussions with HA!

Question is how come you know about the problem and didn't know about the solution? where you too arrogant to learn that there was a solution and stopped following the story up until it reached your political convenience?

Why don't we copy the Italians instead? they keep on building and rebuilding those same old churches that the earthquakes destroy. To the best of my knowledge they are not fanatic about their religion; they are fanatic though about their "Patrimonio Culturale"; it is part of who they are.
I guess the clergy is not out of line; remember the Phoenicians? they sold the Cedars of Lebanon and now we ask what happened to it.
Will we be around to say history repeat itself when Bkirki will be sold to the Saudis?
I would rather keep the church;create a park around it with thousands of trees (call it central park if you want) and go and build a mall in those areas where an economic stimulus is needed ( chouf,South, North and yes Bekaa).

regards

Don't waste your time, Rye. He's just pissed off that his boss has one less church to potentially bomb. And his boss's ally has one less church bell to add to his extensive collection.

Why ?
If the deal happens, the only responsible is the clergy
So please stop using avery occasion for political bashing

PS: Look at muslims, harriris, ...
They are spending from their own accounts to build mosques everywhere
Why wont christians do the same ?
For me, and many others, (also i am an ateist), We are not sure how long christians will still be in lebanon. They are immigrating at great numbers, and most who remains, it is because they cant get visas.
The only way to reassure the christian diaspora, is to create a federal republic
the last part of this post is full of untrue cliches.

wlek tole3 3alseni sha3r ana w2oul to those community leaders in my hometown to convert the huge church they are building now to some sort of a shopping centre before it becomes too holy and loses its real estate value.

They are building a church so massive that all the christian inhabitants of the town in 40 years time would not need more than the first row of pews and the rest of the church will serve as wind tunnel. And if you know the christians in my hometown, they would not pay for the church maintenance ( and it needs a huge amount to maintain) unless God promises to give them something back in return. Their favourite motto is ya rabbi katter khayrak, because a little of it no longer satisfies their ever growing needs.

Wlek since 1990 the town has not once registered an increase in its christian population on a prior year. so what call is there to have such a massive monument for the few people who in all likelihood will not live there to worship in that church?

Vanity and pomp are great but you need someone to eb there to notice.

Iza the worshippers of St Basil church indignant hal2ad, they could use the proceeds and build a brand new church to suit their needs , somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I reckon it offends the lord's ears to hear the prayers directed at him mixed with that of salacious music emanating from the clubs nearby.
