Without you, the "meaning of life" to this forum would be to Kish debben. . Always a pleasure to have you contribute, LF of Ashrafieh.

I am sure you will forgive Hariri and his friends for this transaction. I know you believe them when they say they will keep the church in their heart while taking it off the face of the earth. I am sure your leaders' response will be[ we will build another church "2kbar min bay bayya"]. And you will believe them.

so far.. FPM seems to be better at defending Lebanon and especially Christians than LF...

-May 7th 2008
-Doha agreement
-Latest council of ministers
-Holy Friday
-the Islamic Conference Children education
-exposing Hariri islamization process (per Bishop Ra3e)
-exposing real estate venture by saudis in Lebanon

on the opposite side:
LF:
-allied with Feb 5th people
-allied with Jounblatt who call the maronites as a dirty race
-Hariri who is proud of keeping the Christians out of employment (according to the Maronite Bishops)

just quick examples..

why do u need a church? u can pray at home...

don't forget to close the windows because if the Saudi religious police sees u praying, u will be in deep trouble....

by the way, why are they selling the Convent? do they need the money?

Shou khass Hariri?!?! It's a business transaction. If the Church decides to sell it's their choice! Maybe they're getting a great deal. Again, enough with your religious incitement wel na3arat il ta2ifiye! **** you learned well from the Syrians!

And I am so sure that your reaction would be the same if it was an "iranian" businessman buying the property.......pfffff....

I wonder if people would've opened a thread if it was a mosque or a synagogue that was being sold.

The Meghan Abraham Synagogue has been forgotten for much too long, but people couldn't care less about it. (I think a thread was opened some time ago, but would it have been opened if it was not Hariri behind the mismanagement of Wadi abou Jmil ??)

And I suppose that there is at least 1 mosque in Lebanon that was replaced by a "dekken" or a pub, but again, people wouldn't care since it's not for christians.

I also suppose that people here will jump at me accusing me of being sectarian and unfair with them, but this is becoming disgusting.

All we've seen from the Achrafieh candidates was this visited Monseigneur I dunno what, and that visited Moutran I dunno who.

Bi kaffina mouzéyadé, FPM has been criticizing Bkerke for giving its political opinion yet, it had no problem runnig a priest on its list, or has ne problem talking about a clergyman supporting their candidates.

Double standards will end up by destroying the FPM.......Keep up the good job people, we're starting to look awfully like LFers

Does that help u to understand things and put them in their correct perspective ?

the "Wa2f" or religious properties specifically the christian ones constitute an big percentage of lebanon's surface area.... these properties are very important in preserving at least part of the old Lebanon.....the pre war lebanon.....Beirut and all major cities are becoming stuffed like garbage cans.....modern buildings are eating up all major cities ......

I can talk about jounieh for example.....this once beautiful city, lost it's identity,.....u just have to look and compare old pictures with the new ones ........a big part of the few places that remain from the old jounieh are "Wa2f" properties, because it is a known fact that the religious authorities in lebanon are almost forbidden to sell lands, very strict regulations exist in this respect, but unfortunately laws are being broken because the clergy are becoming more and more business and profit oriented .....

the same applies to Achrafiyyeh......this place is characteristic of the old Achrafiyyeh which lost a big part of its identity and plz i am not talking from a sectarian perspective here......

to make u understand things even better ... think about european countries.....lets say germany for example.....in a town where u have a church or a monastery, it is very hard to get a permission to destroy these for the sake of building a Mall ....and u know people there are not sectarian and mostly not religious but it's about the identity and traditional look of a certain place that needs to be preserved ......

No one would mind if this Mall was built in Achrafiyyeh on an empty piece of land......

I Would also like to shed light on the environmental angle of this issue.....would u prefer an nice monastery with some green spaces and trees around or a modern Mall with parking lots ??....knowing that green spaces in Beirut in general are becoming virtually inexistent.....

I salute Mr Nicolas Sehanoui for what he is doing, his interest in this issue is much appreciated.... he and this youth organization are saddened by what's happening to their town, they just couldn't sit tight and do nothing, so they decided to at least take a stand and voice their opinion hoping the religious authorities would just reconsider their hasty decision.....
The problem is the following
People on your thread started attacking the saudi investor and the poor Mo2awd guy, and ended up bashing nadeem and nayla.
Why ?
If the deal happens, the only responsible is the clergy
So please stop using avery occasion for political bashing

PS: Look at muslims, harriris, ...
They are spending from their own accounts to build mosques everywhere
Why wont christians do the same ?
For me, and many others, (also i am an ateist), We are not sure how long christians will still be in lebanon. They are immigrating at great numbers, and most who remains, it is because they cant get visas.
The only way to reassure the christian diaspora, is to create a federal republic

Mall Replacing a church, In my dictionary usually that's progressive thinking!!

However, in a city like Beirut, a beautiful area like Ashrafieh doesn't need malls.
Malls destroy the street charm of neighboring areas as it empties people from city blocks and squeezes them into large containers of cloned stores.

Across North America cities, the trend is closing huge malls & creating uniqque, small downtown districts with boutiques, galleries & cafes (mostly Starbucks)

Also FPM politicians should play down the defenders of Christians a bit. With politicians like Jumblat on the other side, all it takes is repeat playing the "Jenes 3atel" track for the next few months on OTV, it'll do wonders!!!
