Day after day, I get more convinced that Gebran Bassil should remain in his post within the new government.

During a press conference at his ministry on Friday, Telecommunications Minister Gebran Bassil said certain agents in his ministry are deterring potential investments in Lebanon’s communications industry, thus making Lebanese miss out on thousands of job opportunities.

He said that the general director of the ministry and other employees are “using their powers to violate the law.”

Bassil also called for the judicial system to take action against those obstructing the creation of call centers, in which foreign companies outsource their operations.

How can one deny the great effort of Gebran Bassil, in his current ministerial position ?

When was the last time we saw a minister publicly exposing the flaws in the system, and making actual efforts to fixed them?

I really hope he can resolve the facilitaton of ''call centers'' in Lebanon. It would be good to see actual sustainable permanent job creation, and not just seasonal Hospitality.

I agree with Greg, in europe call centers are like the base of job for alot of people, you dont need high IQ, you dont need to have very high diplomas, you can work part time, full time, you will always find job in a call center here in europe.

Lets hope they work on it and make it decent so it give alot of opportunities for the Lebanese.

الوزير باسيل اتخذ تدبيرا تأديبيا في حق المدير العام للاستثمار

وطنية -صدر عن المكتب الاعلامي في وزارةالاتصالات، البيان الآتي:
"اتخذ وزير الاتصالات المهندس جبران باسيل، تدبيرا اداريا في حق المدير العام للاستثمار والصيانة في وزارة الاتصالات المهندس عبد المنعم يوسف، لمخالفته القوانين والانظمة النافذة، ولعدم تقيده بالتعليمات والمواعيد المحددة من وزيرالاتصالات لتنفيذ اعمال متعلقة بتسيير المرفق العام، بشكل متكرر ومن دون سبب مقبول.
وهذا هو الاجراء الثاني، بعداجراء اول جاء نتيجة تغيبه عن العمل ومغادرته الاراضي اللبنانية من دون اذن من الوزير.
والجدير ذكره،ان تكرار المخالفات من قبل موظف يمكن ان يؤدي، بحسب قانون الموظفين، الى اتخاذ تدابير تأديبية قصوى.
