Actually customizing the M113s and making use of them is a pretty good idea. I think the antiTank TOW and B10s 106 mm would be good at the top, also the MK III 75mm turret can go on top of the APC.
The BM-11s could go on Top somehow (not sure about this one).
The ZpU-23 can also be attached to a m113 but since Zaher says we don't have that then maybe we have the older Zu-2
120mm mortars i think they could fitone of those on top.
The army just Gotta be Creative, and maybe HA can be a little help by requesting some stuff for LA from thier black marcket. :) | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

Although it's better than nothing...yet it is still dated junk weaponry.
| Again, it is still way better than any tank we have. It is better armored and safer, it has a relatively modern computerized fire control system, it has a thermal imager device that allows it to operate at night and in extreme weather conditions, laser rangefinder etc...
Speaking about the M113, there many upgrades that the army should invest in, on top of which better armor and protection. In addition, some AIFV are based on the M113. Quote: |
Imho, the Lebanese Army's biggest asset is the infantry. Our terrain topography, envisioned threats of invasions and the nature of our political system, all require to imporeve the infantry, the infantry and the infantry.
| Wait, we don't want infantry the sort of the 11 Infantry brigades that we have. The Lebanese army should start investing in bigger number of special forces and lower number of regular infantry. Actually I think the army realized that, and this is the main reason behind establishing the Special Operations Command which included all the elite forces in the Lebanese Army under an independent SF command, and their plan is to reach 3 special forces brigades, we currently have 4 regiments which are the Navy SEALs, Commando regiment, Airborne regiment, and Counter-Sabotage regiment. | Wait.. I said we don't have the Shilka it self, which is an auto cannon guided by radar. All what we have is manually guided by soldiers, they are what you see on the M113s. Quote: |

I know that they can and have the means for it...I just don't know why it still didn't happen.
I smell a veto even here... Quote:

But not before a military strategy is clearly set... Quote:

| They already made a simple prototype for a protection mesh cage, it has been used on some of the Intervention Force M113s that had been based in North since Al Bared operation. Nevertheless, the cage needs more work and some changes to become for instance like those of American Strykers used in Iraq.
Look at the photos here, this is what I am talking about. Quote: |

We also have ZPU1/ZPU2/ZPU-4 (The numbers also indicate the number of barrels) again all guided manually.
In addition we have like 10 M42A1 SP, but they are currently stored.
Anyway, none of these can be effective as an AA cannon nowadays. | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

well, GMA's visit to Iran has raised wide speculations and predictions...now i'm not saying that mine is 100% certain, but i surely hope it is cuz it is based on facts and will be of great good for our nation...
in a nutshell, as you may or may not know, President Michel Sleiman entrusted GMA with the elaboration of a defensive strategy that encompasses several pillars including: making use of the resistance's capacities, acquiring state of the art weaponry for the Lebanese army, and using both assets in a way that allows us to optimize their performance...
Now the issue that i would like to raise is the acquisition of weapons for the Lebanese army...since GMA has been officially delegated by the president of the Lebanese republic to fashion a defensive strategy, could his visit to Iran be aimed at the purchase (or probably not :P) of some of the cutting-edge technology weapons that were developed by the Islamic republic, including some that were seen in action during the July war?
what do u think? will we have the chance - in case of an Israeli offensive- to watch proudly as our soldiers take on the so-called "invincible" army, with their anti-tank rockets burrowing through the Israeli tanks and their anti-air systems taking down the Israeli warplanes just like a 12 Gauge rifle takes down birds?
Appreciate your input,
Regards,

Beast | If we would ever get the chance to watch proudly as our soldiers take on the so-called "invicible" army, it will definitely won't be with anti-tanks provided by the US, that you can be sure of. | | | |
