المعلومات غير الرسمية، ترجح أن يبصر تعيين قائد للجيش النور في جلسة الغد ولو كبند من خارج جدول الأعمال، بعدما بات صاحب الحظ الأوفر العميد جان قهوجي، الذي لفتت مصادر مطلعة إلى أن اسمه لم يتداول سابقاً «كي لا يحترق»، وأنه مقبول من رئيس الجمهورية العماد ميشال سليمان ومن تيار المستقبل، ولا اعتراض عليه من أطراف أساسية في الأكثرية والأقلية. وذكرت أن الأمور أخذت هذا المنحى، بعد الفيتو الذي وضعه تيار المستقبل على مدير المخابرات العميد جورج خوري الذي كان اسمه متداولاً بقوة لتولي المنصب، والذي يرى فيه التيار «امتداداً للحقبة السورية»، إضافة إلى أنه «لا يوافق هوى العماد ميشال عون». وتستند هذه المصادر في ترجيحها للتعيين غداً، إلى أن المجلس الأعلى للدفاع، دفع في اجتماعه الأخير إلى الضغط باتجاه بته الفوري، في ظل الأوضاع الأمنية الراهنة وخصوصاً في الشمال.
إلا أن مصدراً وزارياً، ومع عدم استبعاده طرح الموضوع من خارج جدول جلسة الخميس «إذا تم الاتفاق على اسم»، ذكر أن التداول لا يزال يدور حول ثلاثة أسماء، مؤكداً أن خوري لا يزال المرشح الأوفر حظاً رغم اعتراض المستقبل.
وأشارت مصادر إلى أن بعض الأطراف حاولت تمرير تعيين مدير جديد للمخابرات، وتردد اسم العميد جوزيف نجيم لهذا المنصب، لكن الأمر أرجئ بانتظار تعيين قائد الجيش الذي جرت العادة أن يكون له الرأي الأول في

Probably. I had the same impression this morning.
Actually, the way it was formulated suggests many conflicting ideas while they chose one particular name for the scoop/headline.

The fact that politicians are discussing who to appoint instead of having the highest ranking Maronite officer get promoted to General says a lot about the army and this country. The funny thing isthat when the appointment is made, all higher ranking officers are forced to resign. Pity the nation.

all over the world, the new army chief is a political post.same as lebanon
as for people retiring when one is appointed, that is not the case.
army officers retire when they reach a certain age or that they are older than their rank.

Army Command urges mass media to stop undermining military

August 20, 2008


The Army Command’s General Directorate on Wednesday said that some mass media, particularly the visual media, listed the names of candidates for the position of army commander based on their political standards.

The statement said that the Army Command considers this interference in the internal affairs of the military institution, a denial of its national role and of its officers’ ethics, and an offense against the future army commander.

It called on all media outlets to avoid undermining the military institution and to separate it from all political disputes so that it may better serve national interests.

i agree these things might have happened, but not as a standard army policy.
u know well that at the time , how the syrians vetted many of GMA loyalists and were purging them form lahoud days, till sleiman.
i agree a lot of punishmnets went against the army corps during these days.
hopefully now, these things will not repeat since we have at least a way and a voice in stopping it.
anyway appoiting an army chief will take some time, the post is sooooooooo sensitive.
i am sure that no one shall be appointed if GMA does not agree on him.
no GMA seal of apporoval, no army chief.
