All Lebanese should be rejoicing if Lebanon's Muslim leaders unite. We Lebanese on a personal level, whether Christian or Muslim, are without this leadership united, actually they are the ones who seperate us permanently with their useless wars and schizophrenic behavior. Why should Christians worry about such a unity? Wasn't it everyone's aim to unite all Lebanese? First step is such a unity between Sunni, Shia and Druz.. We had enough secterian strifes and battles between Lebanese, time to unite all forces. My only problem remains having a resistance instead of an army in my country, defending my fellow Lebanese. We need a strong army defending Lebanon's borders, if that is the proposal behind the unity Jumblatt is calling for, then it is more than welcome. It is not acceptable that only Shia have to carry the responsibility of defense, it is a collective matter when it comes to our nation's defence in case of aggression.
A Sunni-Shiite unity is only in the interest of Lebanon's Christians, previous failures were witnessed in Iraq, when Sunni-Shiite fought the Christians paid with their blood and with immigration of 600.000 Christians.
I find it great news and a great step by jumblatt, although who knows when he will change his mind and everyone knows that he is not credible, but let us hold some hopes. I hope the Druz community will pressure on him to continue in this peace path to develop in a unity between all Lebanese fractions in order to finally stop foreign intervention and build our country.
I am not insinuating that Jumblatt saw the light, but I think that he is under pressure to stop foreign intervention (especially the US/Saudi intervention) in order to better position our country.
Maybe 2009 will witness a change in Lebanon, I really think that every leader contributes in this change through a positive attitude.
It is not about egos here, it is about a nation's fate and its people.
On a side note: All this may be a mascerade in order to push on forming a government on the expenses of the opposition, but that is nothing new. I really hope it is a serious approach.
I regret to say Lebanon’s political situation is depressing. We are forced to deal with the loyalist’s leaders who lied, cheated and used their sibling’s martyrdom for sympathy to gain power. This is not honest politics addressing the people’s real needs for true reform. Do they, or do they not believe Syria killed their martyrs? Depending on a yes or a no answer, they are either hypocrites or low life liars. Unfortunately, part of Lebanon put them in power and now, we have to deal with untrustworthy partners and the only way to dealing with them is to keep them in check. That is why HA will keep their arms for a long time and that shouldn’t be an issue for any one who understands Lebanon’s priorities. As far as Jumbaltt and Company, I guaranty you change is against their nature. (They don’t believe in evolution because they never experienced it. They love the way they are and it shows.)

In fact when Joumblatt talks about the "islamic playground" as the foundation (al assass), I wonder if he's not refering to the dangerous issue that few ppl except Joumbi talk about... and that's the sunni / shia potential fight.
In fact the real danger these days is in a potential shia / sunna fight. Calming down that front is in fact a foundation for larger internal peace process.
For once, I'm almost able to understand Jumbi's position...
The KAFA video here above is excellent
I adore the final interview with joumbi when he says :
"I accuse them [HA] of some of the assassinations ... if not all of them... let the cards be uncoverds"
I want to know the reaction of the Christians who voted for Jumblat a couple of weeks back.
They will still vote for him w 3a 2alboun mitl el 3assal, just nkayi b Michel Aoun w 2i7tiraman lil Batrak and the historic reconciliation of the Mountain

it looks like the only community in lebanon that still hasn't learnt is the christian community. 30 years of wars, etc and still the same ****. Both sides are pitting one against the other and the christians are blind.
This statement from Jumblat shouldn't surprise anyone. After all its Jumblat! If he decides to line up with Hezbollah good for him, and if he decides to follow Syria's policies good for him, and if he doesn't, also good for him. He can decide whatever he dam*n well pleases, and no one really truly cares all that much. When he says something you like you can agree with him and when he says something you dont like you can disagree with him, but take the whole thing with a huge grain of salt. There are much more important things to worry about in Lebanon, the region and the world than good old Jumblat, he doesnt matter all that much...
This is WJ style. The question is: what about his christian allies.
Relationship between leaders supposed to be a long term, build on sense of trust, unity, and teamwork to atchieve a certain goal. WJ's goal is to proctect his own community.
None of this was a surprise, I am awaiting the comments and explanation of March 14 christians.
Good luck lebanon with true Leaders like Walid Biek.
