I think option 2, however the timing will be when it's least expected. So it will be a while.

There will be no "revenge operation" for the sake of revenge. As long as the Zionist regime is living in a state of fear and insecurity, then SHN's sermons have fulfilled thier obligation for the time being. The punishment for the assasination of Hajj Imad will not come in any strategically insignificant tit-for-tat operation. It will come within the context of the overall conflict, whereby the resistance will score one important strategic victory or another in the future, and will do so in the name of Hajj Imad.

Well, one would say in the sense SHN put it that the retaliation would off Israeli soil. However, I'm thinking assasination of a high-ranked military officer or other such, so that falls under 2. Only the followup, I'm thinking, would be a full-scale war between Lebanon and Israel...

What would be your opinion as a Lebanese citizen, supporting your national resistance, on the type of counterstrike that Hezbollah should do?

(please mods if you can make this a poll)

1. A military operation on the Lebanese borders as in July 2006 (kill or capture israeli soldiers)

2. An intel operation within or outside Israel to liquidate one of the israeli military commanders (eye for an eye), provided it minimizes civilian casualties

3. A direct and massive hit, either on a military or a civilian target in Israel or abroad, regardless of casulaties

4. Do nothing

5. Other

I understand Hizbollahs dilemma. Its leaders have to wake up every day with the insight of being on the israeli hunt list. Wars, assassinations and mutually exchanged violent rhetorics are not directly contributing to change their current state of mind.

I think worse than the worst condition one can think of is adapting to a perpetuated condition where one finds oneself constantly under the same "bad". Imagine us having Hizbollah as still "Hizbollah, the armed islamic resistance" running over the same old ground for three more decades, and with the same old fears. Not good.

And since retaliating back on the israelis for Moughniyyeh now will only make the israelis want to retaliate back on them/us thus adding one more spin to the whirl of violence, i suggest Hizbollah the following:

- Either wait a little more, and start preparing thoroughly by gathering as many fighters as possible from all over the umma, say between half a million- a million man, make sure they get well trained, equip them with effective machine guns, install effective anti warplane missiles strategically all over our lands, and on the dawn of some saturday launch an all out war on the occupied parts of Palestine.. and see what happens. If victorious then great, our problems will probably get solved once and for all- If defeat, not so great, but then we'll have to swallow our bitter luck and come back 50-60 years later on to try and reliberate our new as well as old occupied lands.

- Or, declare that you would like to integrate into the lebanese army under the trustfull leadership of himwhoiwon'tmentionbyname and your willingness to solve our problems with the israelis through diplomatic negotiations.

United, unarmed and at peace, we are allways stronger than armed and divided.

Suppose Syria did the Killing, woud you present the same options, but replace Israel with Syria in the text above?? Afterall, Moughnieh's wife believes Syria killed her husband and she fled to Iran.....no??

Speak of the Devil: Israel worried Syrian army moves a preamble for Hezbollah revenge op - Haaretz - Israel News

Israel could use a revenge attack by Hezbollah as a pretext for a war against Syria.

Tough question.
I prefer if Hezbollah doesn't reply cause if they trigger another war with Israel, that would be a mess.
But Israel is nasty and deserves a punishment. Maybe the Hezb should do something localized like option 2.

Anything that Hezbollah finds reasonable at the time would be fine by me, as long as civilian casualties are kept to a minimum.
