i chose with conditions.

this was my opinion before the elections and not now after we lost because of them.

they should be allowed to vote for THEIR representative and not for the ones running in their district. they should be given a quota of 8 or 10 MPs from all over Lebanon.

giving them the full right of a lebanon resident is wrong, expats are ususally affected by the media and the general politic of the country they live in.

To be able to vote, you have to come to lebanon at least once a year and that should figure on your passeport ...

All Lebanese should be able to vote , as long as they undergo a special initiation ceremony.
They have to go get an official paper done somewhere . If they succeed without going crazy, cursing allah illi khala2o la hal balad or paying rashwet to bribe the guy signing the papers at the office, then they pass the test .
(this is a joke by the way)

A joke that is pretty much close to the truth asdak :P

One more thing to add to my previous post in this thread. Most of the diaspora people who will vote are people who feel concerned by Lebanese politics. The expats who don't give a **** about Lebanon won't even bother to vote ya 3ammé!
Plus most of the expats who are willing to vote are people who had lived and left the country because of the failure of the government. They are the ones who suffered the absence of a future in Lebanon and should thus be entitled to vote.
Don't forget that this issue is a major argument for us to get more voters.

why will we accept them to decide on our behalf once again in 4 years ? thats suicidal !

what do you think comrades ?
Well comrade, we either all are Lebanese or we all are not. I am a dual citizen and I have lived through everything you lived through.
Now snce you mentioned the economic situation, I'm sorry I have to say this, Me and other expats are actually what keeping that economy for getting much worse. We send over 60 billion dollars every year to our families, we invest there and spend lot of money every summer we go to Lebanon.
If you want to use that logic, I think those who live in Lebanon should be the ones not allowed to vote!

These arguments are the best so far. I think you are right on most of them.

the problem was with the people that are not concerned with Lebanon that were brought in for a 1 week paid vacation in order to vote, who dont even know what Mustaqbal, FPM, HA, LF, Kataeb... are or what they stand for, or who have never ever been to Lebanon before...

Those people will be paid money to go and vote in their respective countries, wouldn't you love to be paid 1000$ for 1 hour's work?

The bribery issue would be the same everywhere, simply because there are as many people with no conscience everywhere.

However think about it this way, there is no banking secrecy in many countries in the world. With the proper court order you can open up any account, so if anything this issue is more under control abroad. Lebanese law does not hold, but there are circumstances where you can get the court to get a bank statement. If you found the bribery it will be evidence that can be used in a Lebanese court.

Well, this is why we need to promote the "2bad menno ntekhid doddo" mentality into the expats' minds through civilized, well-documented and efficient media.
We have a TV station and we don't know how to make it work for God's sake. It's OK to be a bit biased, but the balance got broken!

If we don't reach out to the expats then we're doomed. Whether they vote in Lebanon or in their host country, they'll be approached by 14ers. So the question should not be about the adoption of the expats' vote in 2013 anymore which is irrelevant. We have to get something done in the diaspora, for both scenarios seem unfavourable to FPM.
