No law can withstand the corrupting influence of money and the Lahdist willingness of so many Lebanese to sell out.

How about allowing them to vote in t he embassies where they are. This way, the ones who know the situation in Lebanon can vote according to their convictions.

On the other hand the ones who have been out for 20-30 yrs and do'nt even care anymore, will not even bother since they will not feel the obligation to vote for whoever suddenly gave them a paid 1 week vacation in Lebanon.

If this is really an issue, i.e. there are 2x Lebanese abroad than in Lebanon, then you could have a similar approach to the French senate:
Dedicate 12 or 24 MPs to the Lebanese living abroad (and registered in the corresponding consulates) and make sure they can't vote in Lebanon...

A lot of Gerrymandering can happen (i.e. huge incentive for a lot of Chiites from the South to register and vote abroad for instance vs. chiites in ZaHle who would want to vote in Lebanon) but again, a law based on Lebanon 1 district with proportional could work

There should be some rules. It's a yes with conditions.

This time 10% of the voters were expats. They made the loyalist win. In a proportional system they would have less damage (the opposition would have won those elections if it was a proportional system).

Maybe it could be a good idea having additional "diaspora MPs".

People aboard will vote because of political reasons. What happen if they vote for a party that has increasing taxes in its agenda. Why should the guy in Lebanon pay the pice if he wants to vote against it.

Can we please think a little over here.

Yes, probably the people outside lebanon are away from direct conflict (they aren't easily manipulated by media), also they are rich (the can't bribed easily like people here), so i guess yes. But will all the parties accept that ? will everything will be ready in 2013, i guess not, i hope they try to do it, so i can vote next time :)

I think all diaspora should have the right to vote... in the embassies. This will lower the number of prepayed tickets for voting purpose.
Maybe a specific number of mp should be given to diaspora, something like the actual parliament quotas: 50% christians, 50% muslim.
for example:
10 mp :
2 Maronites, 1 Orthodox, 1 Armenian, 1 catholic
2 sunnis, 2 chiite, 1 druze

but if we can get secularism before... way better

think a little bit further,
anyone living abroad does have relatives in lebanon.. so basically what you said doesn't make sense. and imagine yourself working in the gulf, you don't have the right to vote? why? you became a citizen there? you are still lebanese wherever you are and you can still decide how your country should go.
Diaspora voting in embassies will cancel this handicap of 10:3 ratio of loyalist to opposition that happened on sunday.

Well i don't think they benefit anything from that, probably they will elect better than people there since they observe, and not are part of the problem. Also the government assign taxes not the people.
