Default against the vote of moughtaribin in 2013 - 10th June 2009

Why will they choose my MPs for me ? are they the ones suffering from the bad economical situation ?

we witnessed what happens when they voted this sunday. they were brought to vote against us, us as in the lebanese who live in lebanon and suffer from the mafia ruling our beloved country for the last 20 years.

why will we accept them to decide on our behalf once again in 4 years ? thats suicidal !

what do you think comrades ?

The expats were in your shoes before they left LebArmenian. If they -the ones who had to leave their families and friends, the ones who had to go through all the hassles of life abroad - are not allowed to judge the ones who made them leave, then there's a big flaw in the system.

Moreover, every country in the world allows its expats to vote. I don't see them arguing about it because it is a right, a constitutional right to choose your representatives. And if we do as you claim (forbidding the vote from abroad) then find a way to stop the "cascade" of paid expats who will land in Beirut's International Airport, go to Roadster for a Diner-mite burger, vote, and come back carelessly.

Last but not least, you want to make me pay 800$ for a ticket!?

Cheers

p.s: thanks for the poll.

I was for the vote earlier now I'm against it. Lebanese residents only should vote. This means people must live in Lebanon for at least 3 month per year, so that we don’t have those yearly summer visitors deciding for the Lebanese or those who just remembered that they are Lebanese because its election day. Harsh... yes, but sincere.

Are US citizens of Irish descent allowed to vote in Ireland?

First, a Lebanese expat with a Lebanese passport compares to an American with a US passport.

Your condition does not hold. Apparently, even the Canadian Immigration services can't seem to realize that some Lebanese are "virtually" there just to get the nationality. You want the Lebanese authorities to follow a 3-month rule?

If you have the passport / ID then you should be allowed to vote...

If this is really an issue, i.e. there are 2x Lebanese abroad than in Lebanon, then you could have a similar approach to the French senate:
Dedicate 12 or 24 MPs to the Lebanese living abroad (and registered in the corresponding consulates) and make sure they can't vote in Lebanon...

A lot of Gerrymandering can happen (i.e. huge incentive for a lot of Chiites from the South to register and vote abroad for instance vs. chiites in ZaHle who would want to vote in Lebanon) but again, a law based on Lebanon 1 district with proportional could work

Diaspora should be represnted with a limited number of MPs dedicated to the diaspora (like 2 or 3 additional MPs elected exclusively by diaspora)

Only for the presidantial elections. We control then in Lebanon, now you want to control them over almost 200 countries. No more stupid fights, there is no need for this now. Lets have the country back and then we can think about all the other things.

Sure why not, they were excellent at doing the electroal lists...

I agree about the passport thing, which means that there should be conditions for being an expat with the right to vote.
