sorry, but it was always ok for everyone to be involved in politics.

however, it is not ok that this religious figure uses his religious authorities to influence any political opinion, and to consider himself flawless
cheers

you seem to misunderstand the whole issue.... religious men/women
are citizens like the rest of us...they can work/have an opinion in politics
just like any other citizen and they will be answered to in politics if/when
one would disagree/agree with them. fhemta?

There was a video that was aired by OTV about a speech from Kamil Moubarak related to the Nahr el Bared incidents, Taef, government, etc...

It was a fiery speech, i got goosebumps listening to it.

I hope some research savvy forumer can dig it up and post it (John A, Watani, X, CedarLB, etc.)... IT IS AMAZING

Can anyone enlighten us about this ? who is this guy/Priest? how close is he to FPM? and why would he be an electoral booster? ...

What's wrong with people here?

Priests have one job and one job ONLY: PRAY

The FPM has attacked the patriarch, telling him not to interfere in politics.
FPM is a secular party and having a priest on its list will completely destroy whatever's left of this belief.

As for the people finding excuses: He's the dean of this or that university, he's a professor, he's I dunno what.
The guy is still a priest.

Do you think that this guy will support a law to legalize CIVIL MARRIAGE ?

There are many other examples that go against his religious beliefs and FPM's policies.
Guys, please, we're really not LFers, we can think, stop defending this decision.

FPM got in Alay 72 % of the christians voters in 2005 . Iam wondering with abouna mbarak what will be the percentage and what about the opinion of the supporters of isrlen regarding electing the list of oppostion ?
I think no problem with abou mbarak running this election especailly that we know his role during the 7areb el ta7reer , his liberal thoughts, his relation with Sfeir ,and his opposition to 7arriri ( 2edes el a7ad eli wara elga2 3etlet el jem3a el 3azeme ) ...

why are you making assumptions. I don't know him really well, but before making an assumption, why don't we ask... he might be in favour of a new secular option. Not all clergy are like... the batrak!

We, Lebanese are sometimes funny in how we take rules to the extreme, and then we make it our job to ensure the rule is implemented to the dot! like the Jews when they were told not to do any work on Saturday, they made it their job to attack anyone who sneezes on a Saturday.
We fight feodalism, but if a chiaa with a family name Aoun gets a high position in FPM, we raise hell!!
We fight for splitting religion and politics, but if a priest runs for elections, we raise hell! That's not religion interfering in politics... religion interfereing in politics is when a clergy in a POWERFUL POSITION, and who is elected in Rome, uses his power and his voice to influence politics. But if the people decide to vote for a priest to represent their riding.. so what?? Even here in Canada, where you have the best example of a secular system, i worked with a church minister who ran for an MP position, and he won... by muslim votes in his riding... we are for a secular system, but let's not get to an*l about it.

It seems Walid Beik has left an empty place for Arslan on his list in exchange of the opposition leaving an empty place for Akram Chhayeb, I think it is a more than good deal! but it seems GMA wants to close the list in Aaley!

actually leaving druze empty seats would be a good move for the opposition...

the only way to win any seats in Aley is by reducing the number of druze voters... and the only way to do that is by avoiding any druze competition... this may lead to Jounblatt not campaigning extensively....

whereas leaving an empty seat in return in Baabda won't make a big difference because the druze are not the most numerous and their non-participation will make elections even more guaranteed for FPM & allies..
