To answer your question: it could be that KSA cannot accept the loss of Saad and it views Lebanon as one of its "National Security" files. Another one would be to keep a balance: Sunni with the control of the government and Shi3a with the control of the weapons. Maybe, it wants to restore the status quo of the 1990s until the next round of turmoil whenever the USA wants...

I clearly see it as yet another foreign fight on Lebanese soil. For a fight, there must be a prize. People don't just fight for the fun of it, not sane people anyways.
It's clear that saudi has it's allies (u.s. and israel), whereas Iran has it's allies... list is so long, not sure where to start :)
It's also clear that to move the masses on the ground, the game of sunni vs. shiite is the card they are using.
Now, what's the prize if ksa wins the fight, and what is the prize if iran wins.
Either way, I can tell you that us, the Lebanese population will lose.
