New TV calls for solidarity with presenter Eid

BEIRUT: New TV is calling for “solidarity” with its embattled presenter Ghada Eid, whose show Al-Fasad (Arabic for corruption) is scheduled to air live on Friday evening.

The station released a statement on Thursday, promising that Eid would “appear to her viewers during her customary Friday night show,” and asked people “from throughout the country and from all political affiliations and persuasions” to stand in solidarity with Eid, who faces an arrest warrant for her alleged slander of a judge.

A New TV source told The Daily Star that a solidarity rally will likely take place at the station an hour before Eid takes the air, at 9 p.m. The source declined to predict whether a confrontation would take place, should the authorities attempt to arrest her.

Eid managed to elude police officers who arrived at the station, in Wata al-Msaitbeh, during her show last week, to enforce the warrant.

The station urged “all honorable judges to stand with [Eid] in order to recover the prestige of the judiciary and justice.” It said she was the victim of “vengeful, unfair measures that are part of a a series of such measures and methods of pressure, on the station and its employees, in order to limit their independence and prevent them from relaying people’s complaints to the authorities.”

Eid faces slander charges from two programs; one on the assassination of a Phalange official in Zahle, and the other involving accusations of vote-buying during the June parliamentary elections.

Separately, a Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) official said the controversy should be treated “without seeing a police raid.”

Maan Hamieh, an SSNP media official, said Thursday that a solution should both safeguard the status of the judiciary, while dropping the arrest warrant and ensuring that Eid is responsive to the judicial process.

كفى ضحكاً على الناس... ضعوا حدّاً لهذه المسرحية الهزلية... ما هذا؟ فولكلور لبناني خاص؟ طريقة خاصة لصناعة النجوم؟
فكل الطبقة السياسية، الإعلامية، الدينية، القضائية، الإدارية، الصناعية والتجارية فاسدة... حتى ولو كانت غادة عيد استثناء (وهذا أمر قابل للنقاش أيضاً، خاصة بعد حلقتها الشهيرة مع إبراهيم كنعان) فهذا لا يعني بالضرورة أن برنامجها لا يخضع بدوره للاستغلال من قبل جهات فاسدة...
على كل حال، فقد أمضى هذا البرنامج سنين طويلة من الحكي عن الفساد، ولكن من دون أية نتائج عملية تذكر، ربما باستثناء أن الفساد (عبر هذا البرنامج وعبر غيره من الأساليب التي يعتمدها الفاسدون) قد أصبح أمراً عادياً (لا بل أصبح «ثقافة» يتباهى بها علناً عند معظم الطبقة السياسية) لا ينفع معه النق إلا وسيلة للتكريس.

i careless about ghada eid but lets be fair:

1- the issue of ibrahim kanaan is not clear until now. she or he might be wrong and its the least of my concerns in this thread since the current mouzakkaret tew2if is due to a different case.

2- i still remember the days where FPM officials used to show on her program to expose corruption and how all FPMers where by her side even on the past sit ins in from of Al Jadeed FPMers where always there to support her.

Its a shame to attack her this bluntly by wishing her to rott in hell because once in her program she exposed a file againt an FPM MP, a cut that might be unjust.
Hold your horses guys and remember that before we had OTV, there was NTV supporting our cause that was just.

Finally, this whole mess is only making ghada eid stronger and proving once again that Al Jadeed is a objective station that doesnt belong to any party, one time exposing FPM and other times attacking FM. Let's be a bit mature in our posts and discussions.

What's not clear to you? The guy went on TV and he said he lied so he either lied on Ghada's program or on OTV when he lied, which makes him an unreliable witness whatever he might have said.
It is crystal clear to me that she brought an unreliable witness to discredit an MP. If a journalist wants to get to the bottom of the truth she'd better get her facts straight and get reliable source or she's only looking for trouble. Bringing an unreliable witness is either laziness from her side or deliberate slander. In both cases bringing an unreliable witness tarnishes the reputation of all her program and herself with it.

سلمت الاعلامية غادة عيد نفسها الى القضاء، واقتيدت مخفورة الى مكتب قاضي التحقيق في جبل لبنان رفول بستاني، حيث يصار الى استجوابها في موضوع مذكرة التوقيف الصادرة في حقها، في قضية القدح والذم في حق القاضي شهيد سلامة.

started on a good foot , than she went into the hate politics and got herself messed up.

her downfall started when she took side in 2008 when some thugs in zahle had a problem and 1 or 2 were killed.
that day she went on tv and abused FPM for no reason and she started taking side in her show until HER INFAMOUS IBRAHIM KENAAN TV SHOW.

also she used her program to try and get personal benefits form a specific land case ( i have mentioned in an earlier post the case issue).

i am neutral on her issue, while i will not CONDEMN HER BUT I WILL NOT DEFEND HER EITHER.
let the law of 14shbatt take its due course ( rest assured she will be released soon, imagine it took like 6 weeks for her to report to police LOL , what a shame)
