Default You Can Switch to Linux? - 3 Weeks Ago

Just interesting, what people think about switching to Linux or adding it as secondary OS on their computer.

What is missing in Linux, except games support, on your opinion?
What you need to switch to Linux?

It is already easy to use, and in same time it is stylish
YouTube - Ubuntu 9.10 3D Desktop
Here is process of installation, it is even easier than Windows to install
YouTube - Installing Ubuntu 9.10
Check also how it looks here, it is beta review but enough good representation what it can do.

Compatibility. Well, it works on most laptops i know.
And most of time i try to install Vista on this laptops - it will have missing drivers. For example Vista doesn't have Atheros wireless drivers by default. There is recovery CD with laptop - but it is overloaded by **** software supplied by manufacturer of laptop, which make this Vista extremely slow.

Even if I neglect the support and the compatibility side (where windows is superior)... I will still use windows, because it is much more familiar than Linux.

Nuclearcat, Believe me, when it comes to Nvidia, you will really suffer. There is a memory leak problem with compiz and Nvidia, it is not really compatible with the visual effect and whatsoever.

Another thing, the FN and Brightness, S1,S2 keys do not work on my laptop ( Vaio). I found a workaround but I need to apply it each time I reboot or by starting up a script.

I have Nvidia :-) Not top one, but works well, GeForce 9800 GT. But i don't use compiz, since it distract me too much. Sure you should use stock ubuntu. Kubuntu for example complete ****. In latest one they really did great job. Maybe you should fill bugzilla entry, if issue still exist, so they can help you.

As far as i know there is special modules for Vaio. I have very small one Vaio, and managed to make it work there. But on those Vaio fingerprint reader and accelerometer doesn't work. It is old laptop (2 years), and one of the first models in this series.
Brightness in Ubuntu worked on all laptops i had (friends, @work).
