i agree high end grafic cards for normal monitors are useless
rfi2i bimashi kel el al3ab 3a geforce 7300 (desktop card) , he has a LG 20 inch screen but he don't set all details to maximum and he play at regular 1024x768
if i was him i would of course play on much higher grafic details , but anyway the point is that old card can still make almost every game work , his processor is a single 3.0 ghz
his card 7a2a 40$ :P

a 17" monitor cannot go above 1280x1024 for resolution right ? so u don't need a a huge vga to play games on this resolution ya3ne performance of 9800gt = performance of gtx260 on this resolution, bass if u plan to play games on a 22" monitors ya3ne resolution akbar let's say 1600x1200 then u need to buy some of these super vga's w always with high settings.

9800GT will run most games at max details at that resolution (1280x1024)

But some very demanding games like Crysis might need faster graphics card if you want to play it on highest details at the same resolution.

In your previous post you said that you are going to get 8GB ram, which is a waste of money. You won't notice the difference between 4GB ram and 8GB ram specially if you are going just to play games. Get GTX 260 insteading of wasting your money on 8GB ram.
